Home Depot sale 4/29 - 5/2

Thought folks might like to know..

Home Depot is having a sale on quart size perennials. They are 5 for $10 starting 4/29. Sale lasts through Sunday May 2nd. Limit 20 per customer.

I would assume check their website for availability in your area.

I went to a local HD this AM to pick up several flats of Begonia (my usual source has sold out for the season) and didn't see any perennials on sale. There may have been some on the roll-around carts in the unloading area, but all of the sales areas, inside, outside and a roped-off area in the parking lot were loaded with annuals, The few perennials I saw were not on sale.
While there, checked their veggies & herbs and passed, as everyone else did. Waaay overpriced!

Drainage and light can affect the tree color a bit. How much frost one gets over another tree can creat more color. I have trees grown from same tree acorns, beside each other, with more or less color on them. I notice color variation from year to year as well. Can you get to a nursery, see what balled tree's color is now, and purchase a colorful one? I know how they are tagged at the cheap Home Depot places, but not entirely accurate all the time. Nursery will cost more, but should be MUCH more reliable on variety, with color right in front of you to see. Might even get a price break for such late purchase, no guarantee. Our local nurseries give huge price reductions and no warranty, with late fall sales. Often more than half off of lovely trees and shrubs. For me, it is getting too late to plant or move trees this fall. I have planted my last purchases in a holding bed, just have to fence them as rabbit protection. Hope they grow happily under the dirt until freezing of the dirt.

Cherie, Some fluorescent fixtures with certain electronic ballasts can be rewired to use two ballasts instead of one. That applies more power to the bulbs and they emit 50% more light, which is much brighter. Plants respond to the extra light with faster, healthier growth. I lot of people who grow plants under fluorescent fixtures are modifying their fixtures to overdrive their bulbs. A user here, Zink, introduced a lot of us to overdriving. The original message thread was so popular that it grew to the 100-message limit and has since been taken off the forum. But you can find all of the original information in links that are given in the subsequent I have found the BEST cheap flourescent ballast/fixture - cont'd. message thread, which was started to get around the 100-message limit. I feel that I owe Zink a debt of gratitude. His overdriving information revolutionized my indoor gardening. MM

Congratulations Lunchlady - that is TERRIFIC! YEA for you! Congratulations on your right sized pants! I think you do need at least one new top so you have a whole new outfit. You can do it - those of us who are still working on getting to goal are counting on you to be our role model! How's that for no pressure? :) I'm cleaning out my extra room (which is really a huge storage closet) today so that I'm keeping busy and away from the kitchen this weekend. I think it's downright sinful how much "stuff" we all collect that we don't really need. Unfortunately I moved a big box and found an area of mold underneath (that darling cat is no longer with us). So now I can add ripping the carpet out to my list of things to do. But I'll wait for my son to come home from his dad's so he can tackle that. He likes to do things that require brute strength, fortunately. I'm happy to report I finally got in some exercise last evening with a friend and this morning solo (walking). I so enjoyed it and hope I will have the good sense to make it a habit. Have a good weekend everyone, and congratulations again, Goalie!

Feisy68-if they're hungry enough....much better chance they will eat and like. (Wisdom passed down from my father). Also, while they might not like it the first time, they may the second or third. My rule has always been that the kids need to try at least one bite of anything new. I'm so very pleased in how willing they are to try anything new I make. Good luck!

Georgia-rose, I agree completely. HD plants here are almost always way overpriced. Personal experience with the local big box stores, our Lowe`s has much better prices on plants.
I saw this HD sale on a coupon blog and thought it was too good not to share.

Our WV HD had the sale going on, but just not much to choose from. they had a few hosta's, one kind of heuchera,and a few other little things.I didnt buy anything except a pack of cosmos seed.

Thanks for the heads-up on this! Georgiarose, I almost missed them yesterday, and was close to leaving thinking that store wasn't having the sale. But they were on the rolling carts out in the parking lot. Not a huge selection, but a good deal if they happened to have something you wanted. Ours had May Night Salvia, Purple Ice Plant, some Dianthus, and Heuchera (just three kinds). I got the purple ice plant and Amethyst Mist & Stormy Seas Heuchera. I'd been wanting some Heucheras anyway, and I had heard good things about Amethyst Mist especially, so I got five of those.
