Julie, like Susan said, don't worry about "normal".There is no "normal". Each one of us grieves as differently as each of our personalities and experiences with our loved ones who have left us. Being that we all have different experiences with our loves, we have different hurts, issues to deal with, circumstances to straighten out in our heads and the list goes on and on. We all have that basic grief, but there is no time table or rules when it comes to what we are feeling inside and when it surfaces. Birthdays are hard for me. Harder than the "Heaven Day" as I call it. I try not to think too much about the fact that I won't ever see Chris again in this life. I try to remember that this life is VERY short compared to the eternity of pure happiness that I will spend with her after my time here is up. That is a happy thought. Try to replace your bad/sad thoughts with happy ones. It will help you survive this. I too, can honestly finally see a significant difference in my emotional state since Chris left. It has been 6 years and 5 months. My heart is finally feeling lighter and I am more ready to do fun things. Chris knows I love her and always will. Birthday Lunch With His Birthmom Today

Thanks so much for all your kind words. I was both very happy and very sad all day long yesterday. Happy because my son is doing what he wants to be doing and enjoying it very much, and that he was alive and healthy; sad because I worry so incredibly much about him over there and was wishing selfishly that he was safe back home again . . . that they all were. But, his unexpected call (just as I was typing the last words of my post here) was fantastic! We actually had a nice long chat. It was so good to hear his voice and to know that he was OK. Afterwards, I headed down to Albuquerque so that I could meet up with his birthmom near to her office. We had a great lunch at a place called Brava Bistro and while we ate (gazpacho and bruschetta . . .yumm!), I filled her in on family , DS's call and passed along the message that he'd be calling her later that evening so that he could talk to his (half)sisters, too. It was a good seeing her again. I love that she and DS look so much alike. Same coloring, same beautiful pale blond hair, same features, same smile. She and her two young daughters (she's divorced) have become like family to us over the years and have even spent some holidays here with us. I both love and admire her very much . . . plus, she's a lot of fun to be with! As usual, we had someone take a couple of pics of us to send to our (hers and mine . . . we share him now) son. But, please don't think I'm some kind of saint about all of this, I'm not. If she had turned out to be some nutcase, I wouldn't have this kind of arrangement with her. But, she's a wonderful, down-to-earth, very good person (awesome, actually) and everyone of us has benefited hugely from this openness and sharing. Anyhoo, it was a fun lunch. Below is a (cropped) pic taken of us at the restaurant. It shows my special ring. I had them take one to show DS I was wearing it once again. Lynn And here's a pic I took of DS on his first birthday. I gave his birthmom a copy of it. he had a Cookie Monster birthday cake, hence the bright blue icing. Not the greatest idea for a birthday boy in a white outfit (LOL!):

No, it was nothing like a quiche. Owner said it had 3 different cheeses, fresh tomato slices, basil, and I saw onion slivers. Don't know what else, but nothing like a quiche. Excellent!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

It isn't my birthday but THANK YOU!!!

It's my 25th Anniversary today...LOL

My sweet David is at work right now...but he is going to wine and dine me tonight!!! A big ole seafood platter has my name written all over it...perhaps some adult beverage would go nicely with it...hahahahaha

Gosh Carol.....you are so darn sweet!!!!! Love you sweet lady!!!

Wish I could call myself a "domestic goddess" again. Never worked so hard in my life. Oh well, times change and it passes. Soon I can join the ranks of the retired.

That is too funny! When you said you and Jackie shared the day I thought you meant birthday! LOL. Well, Happy anniversary, dear Deb. An adult beverage sounds good, a chocolate dessert sounds even better :-)

Happiest anniversary to you and David. Heck go whole hog, have the fish, the grown-up drink and the chocolate. When Carol and I were in New York, LaBrea took us to a fancy chocolate bakery where you could order 3 chocolate deserts for about 7 dollars. A little piece of heaven.

I love my precious rose buddies!!!!

Oh yes...David wined and dined me! Very romantic and sweet.

Patricia you are such a love!!! We just went out for a nice supper...we're planning on a trip to Washington DC to see the Smithsonian so we're saving up every penny we can. I want to see a part each day and take our time...not be rushed. I want to savor every minute!!! I haven't decided exactly WHEN we will go but I know we will!
