If you're putting wood down as the floor, don't put it right on the ground. Our shed is wood from the bottom to the top and planted right on the ground. The wood on our shed wicked water up from the ground over the years. The floor is almost entirely rotted out on one side and quite 'bouncy' in the middle. There's also all kinds of pretty colors of mold growing inside. I plan to tear the old shed down some day and replace it with a plastic one. (The plastic ones look better than the existing one. I don't need anything more to hold rakes and a lawnmower.) I was planning on laying a gravel pad for the new one and possibly putting it in a higher location. That's just my 'draft' theory. Revisions to be expected!

I live in FL and I too have had NO problems with my Royal shed. I have had it for 10+ years, and it has gone thru many hurricanes and flooding downpours of rain; everything inside has stayed bone dry and safe. In one hurricane, a large limb (about 200 lbs) fell on it, and there was no damage to the shed. I also love the sky light pnl kit. I installed two kits (sets of 2) and it stays well lit inside. I also installed the extension kit so my shed is 10X12. I did not install the high wind kit which was basically steal rods that slip into the pnls interiors, raising the max wind speed to 120 MPH In the post by don't know, he stated he had gaps. If the original track is not made square, the entire structure will be off and the roof will not align correctly. It is important to assemble it square on a solid foundation (as per the instruction manual) or it could leak and will be crooked. When I originally put it up, my track was off and when I slid the pnls together, the door frame was not square and it rubbed. I slid the pnls back out and fixed the problem with the track. Once done, everything has been great. The sliding together of the pnls only takes about 1 hr, all the hard work was building my wood foundation and squaring the track on it. PS The reason I saw this link, is I was thinking of taking mine down when I move and shipping it because I like it so much. Many of my jars were previously owned by someone living out in the CA desert who stored them outside the house - garage? shed? While I wouldn't want my lids out in the hot, the glass jars do just fine. Don't worry too much about them getting grubby because they just will. That's what dishwashers are for.

Given the narrowness of the side yard and the presumed visibility of it from the street, and the fact that you probably have windows and other architectural features you don't wish to block, I wouldn't think that the side yard offers much possibility of being a location for a storage shed/facility. The back of the house would potentially offer more, with the exception of the architectural features, since know nothing about them there. If you have no possibilities against the back of the house, your best bet is something like the current location. Just build a cuter shed, and maybe a bigger one to make it as convenient as you need.
