Another HFGH?????

I have been tracking this for a while.. a friend sent me some compiled data(I believe from GW) of what to do..The first line being "throw the directions away"...LOL I have miss placed it and am wondering if anyone has a clue as to what I'm looking for..

Dax the thread of your How To is just awsome great pics very easy to understand...I have heard mention of foam and alumiunm tape being used for a better seal and replacement clips...?????

I went and picked one up yesterday... My husband is in construction and the 2 of us built our home...But I don't want this to be some prolonged production I want the dang thing up and running so I can get these plants out of my house...LOL

Any further input would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome, Chena!

The first and most important thing you can tell us is what size HFGH you have there. The 6x8 goes up quickly and seems sturdy as is; the 10x12, however, seems to need some modification to strengthen the frame.

My only experience is with the 6x8 and I can wholeheartedly say I am still very happy with it. Dax's thread and comments and photos by others were a tremendous help in building and winterizing it.

I agree Kylie, if you can post which size HFGH you've picked up, we can get you better info. Diane is right about the 10x12, they need some extra bracing to be sturdy in winds (that's what I have.) Sounds like you are a handy couple, so I'll bet you'll be able to get it up and running without too much marital stress!

Also, do keep the manual...annoying as it is, you'll definately need it, in spite of all the good and helpful posts here, LOL!

I'm quite certain you can rig a fan up there so long as the extention does not conflict with any bracing you installed (such as the 1/2" rigid conduit that I and others used to brace the walls.) The timbers that form the footing of the GH are 2x12 pressure treated fir. I did that a year ago when I started this project, but today I would have used the same rough cedar which I discovered later that summer at a local mill. I used the same PT fir for the outside steps and cedar for the interior steps. The steps make access to the GH a lot more convenient and being in snow country it allowed the base of the GH to be largely above the level of the typical snowfall here. This is our first season growing in the GH but it's mid-July and we just recently pulled out the lettuce and spinach that had gone to seed. A new lettuce crop (seeds)is in the newly built 3rd box - time will tell how that goes. It gets awfully hot in there though. As for weight, someone else might answer that. I strapped the various shelves to the sides and have seen no problem from the weight of the starting trays. However, I plan to replace the shelves (right now we are using the wire closet organizer shelves) with the style that Cactusfreak features in his HFGH photos. I want the additional space they will provide as well as to have them supported by pipes mounted above the raised bed boxes.

OK, I'm back. Eastpenna, ordering from Harbor Freight is sorta like herding cats through a three-ring circus. Always an adventure. ;-) The person you spoke with was incorrect and/or confused; the clips are still available. Here is the info you need to call back with. The clips are identical for both the 6x8 greenhouse and the 10x12 greenhouse. However, Harbor Freight uses different part and SKU numbers for each kit. I asked him to look up both for us, so I could post it all here. He said to be sure to give them the SKU number and that will avoid confusion. (Good luck with that, lol.) For the 6x8 greenhouse: Part number 46 panel clip SKU number 27339, set of 72 clips, $9.99 For the 10x12 greenhouse: Part number 53 panel clip SKU number 29457, set of 130 clips, $15.99 Hope this helps, feel free to post back if this doesn't work. Nice looking job. Looks very sturdy. I like the 10X12's because I grow orchids and hang them from the roof, so I need the extra highth. Thay are good greenhouses for the money. I'm getting ready to get another 10X12 to add to the 2 that I alreay have hooked together. So when I done I will have 10X36 for alot less tham other manufatures. And in Florida it works.

I got the 10 X 12.. Finally got it out of the truck( a box at a time..LOL) That sucker is heavy!!! DH is looking it over as we speak...Now I guess I need to decide where the heck to put it before I worry about all of the other things... I am soooo very excited...
There is so much great advice and experience here I'm thinking we won't have to discuss divorce before it is complete...LOL

It's a pain to do, but it's a good idea to check all the parts as soon as you can, just to be sure you didn't get one of the "lucky" kits missing a part. There are several folks here who have waited over a year to receive missing parts (shame on Harbor Freight.)
