Comments (3)Brian, Sometimes I have a double purple datura live and come back for two or three years but it is, technically, only a zone 9 plant. However, there have been anecdotal reports of them surviving winters as far north as Wisconsin, so I guess it must be possible. Mine do better when they are in perfectly well-drained soil, and they'll come back if our winter temps don't drop into the single digits. I lose them, though, if we drop into the single digits or if a "blue norther" comes in and the temperature drops quite drastically before the plants have had a chance to gradually acclimate to cooler weather. I still have brugmansias and daturas blooming in pots that have survived this year down to 16 degrees, which is colder weather than they "normally" can handle. Usually, by mid-December, they are dormant and waiting out the winter in the tornado shelter. I have carried them into the barn on some of the coldest nights. I think that Sunday night/Monday morning may get them, though, as we're expected to go down to around 10-14 degrees. And, as for springs and wells: The Red River is less than a mile west of us (and 9 or 10 miles south of us and 3 miles east of us, so we're surrounded) and we have several springs on the property. They have been there many years, but sometimes they dry up. Sometimes they stop running and never start up again. Sometimes a spring stops running in one location, and a new one pops up hundreds of feet away. People who've lived here forever tell me this is "normal". So, be aware that just because a spring is there now doesn't mean there always will be one. Our newest neighbor spent several thousand dollars having a well company attempt to drill a well and was sure they'd find one because "everyone here has springs". No well, and they finally gave up and paid to buy into the rural water co-op system. So, do your well research carefully. Have you researched the annual rainfall for the Tulsa area? I think they consistently get more rain than most of the rest of the state. I'll link the OCS page for you and you can research your area's averages. Comments (20)Good Evening to All of You, Back home and lots to do as always but need to get away sometimes. I enjoyed reading all your posts but have to agree with Luvs. I'm feeling sad and sick with the loss of Anj's little neighbor girl. Can't imagine being without my GD who is 4. She is the LIGHT of my LIFE and then some. Losing a child is a tough thing to handle and all I can say is time does help heal. It's been 33 years since we lost our son and it's hard for me to see others have to go through this. Anj, come on up and I'll not only airbrush your nails but will apply the acrylic. Do you want colored tips or french with a different color smile line or just french? haha You are so busy with the kids and it's great that you are going back to camp and being the photographer. Nice memories from our childhood huh. Makes me reminise while sitting here. We started GD in swimming lessons for 4 weeks last week and she's excited that she can float and breath under water while swimming. So fun to hear the excitement when she's done with her lesson and she's so hungry. Normally she doesn't eat much. I got to take her the first day so it was great to visit with our phone customers while waiting. DD happened to go to a pool where one little one is 3 and was jumping off the high dive. She was so impressed that she ask the mom who taught her to swim and it was one of our customers who also just started a preschool. She has taught school for years and decided several years ago to put in a pool at her home instead of renting someone else's. I have't had the time to just visit so was really behind on what was going on in her life. All of her four children have been top graduates and so it's to bad DG already has a preschool that she loves. Luvs, your nails shouldn't be real thin after having acrylics on. Some nails are more sensitive with exposure. However if they are you can help them by applying a few coats of clear until they are use to being exposed again. A couple of weeks should do it. I applied acrylic to DD toes for the summer and she loves them. I have mine airbrushed french with NIKE designs. Luvs, what will you do in Vegas while visiting? Are you taking the motorhome on this trip? I hope some year we will be able to go have more fun like that. Let us hear from you as soon as you have a computer available. Belle, sounds like you did the right thing by talking with the dad and telling him like it is. I think you get more respect when your honest and up front with whoever. You Go Girl!!! By the way your donuts are broadies here in MT.LOL Do you say soda or pop? How about the rest of you? My DH always says pop and DD says soda. I think DS says beer.LOL Cuz I'm not sure he doesn't use both when refering to that drink. Must be hard to have so many neighbors now. Did you subdivide or was it others? We still own the 100 acres by us for this reason. Don't know what will happen if the other 5 siblings ever want to sell at once. But we're prepared if it's only 2 or 3 who want out. Belle, sure enjoyed your tray and Luvs, trash can. Need to get to bed so I'll check in later this week. Punk...See MoreI come back and everybody leaves?? ha
Comments (14)Hey sorry ya'll. Been crazy once again this week. Longing for some quiet time. We have out of town guests and I went with my mom, aunt and cousin TS shopping on Thurs and out to lunch. We hit 3 TS's and I picked up lots of neat stuff including an old sled that I will use for decorating at Christmas for $7! Think I only found one small painting mag, but a bunch of other neat stuff. Oh an old flip top table for $5!! I was really excited about that. It's small so maybe will use it as a plant stand?? Not sure. Will try to post pics later. I've got another kid going to camp so had to go shopping for a few things for that on Friday as well as for our annual crawfish boil at the reservoir. Plus had a kiddo sleeping over here so cooked up some goodies for them and they watched "old" 80's movies most of the night. DH went to the reservoir and spent the night crawfishing so I didn't get a lot of sleep. Sat we loaded everyone up and drove to Strawberry Reservoir which is about an hour and 1/2 away. We go every year on the 24th and this year DH invited some friends and then our house guests were there so we had a good many people there. The kids swam and crawfished and everyone said they had a great time. We cooked a LOT of crawfish and we just had a great day. I was following DH home and he got so tired that he had to pull over and sleep so I had to drive the rest of the way home by myself and luckily I had the gps with me cause I missed my exit so it helped us get home at close to midnight. Had to run DD's friend home and then waited up for DH to get home at around 3am. Then I tried to go to sleep and couldn't so ended up laying there awake until around 4 something. UGH! Dog had to go out at 5am so yeah, there was my night for ya. ha I'm tired!! We didn't go to church today so here I am. Have to get DD packed for camp today so they can load the trailer. They aren't leaving until Tues morning. We are making crawfish chowder today for our guests so that will take up most of the afternoon. Just lots going on so I know ya'll will understand when I'm not here. ha That's my life right now. Always something going on. Anyway, I have been unloading the van and am still in my jammies so better go shower and get rolling. Ya'll have a great day!! ~Anj Oh, Franksmom....I have seen mag holders made from cereal boxes and covered with pretty papers so glad you thought of that. I didn't remember until you said that, but I had this one bookmarked that is done with fabric. I'm putting a link for ya. Looks like they used mailing boxes which are pretty sturdy and I think they are free?? Keep crafting! Here is a link that might be useful: Recycled Mag box...See MoreCan we have tea early this week?
Comments (43)Not sure about BIG graph paper, but I still have two pads of the 8.5x11 stuff that saw me through the early stages of my remodel planning. And somewhere, I have a bigger graph page pad too, but not sure if the squares on it are larger. I would like to see some graphs that are 1/2 inch squares, now THAT would be helpful. In our old house that was killed in Hurricane Katrina, we had the 1950s era real blueprints all rolled up, and countless notes about how they built it. But these days, the blueprint industry is a lot different. Nothing "blue" about it. Moving pieces of paper around is a big improvement over trial and error moving of pieces of furniture. I like to draw a floor plan. Then I like to draw the ELEVATION of all four walls in each room. It helps me to see how well the room is balanced. No "heavy" corners, no light-weight spots, so i don't feel like my "marbles' will roll to one side of the room. I think achieving a balanced feel in a room gives me a sense of comfort. And, I know that making the most of a view, taking advantage of a natural view, or maybe screening a disturbing view out the windows, makes me feel happy and content. While I lived at MoccasinLanding, I had a neighbor who parked a real Greyhound bus (yes indeed) right next to our shared property line. (I saw that bus the other day and it was totally covered by mildew in a parking lot!) so I put in a privacy fence along that line, and then I planted a living screen. I also put in some wind chimes and hanging baskets, to keep my eye close-focused, and not allow it to range across the fence. In my back bedroom, I had a view of the small bayou, and I kept that long look down the bayou open, not blocked, because it was so pretty. In those days I was home only 63 days a year, 21 days x 3 times each year, because I was working in south Texas or south Louisiana. I took pictures of the views from each window and then while I was a safe distance away, I indulged all sorts of imaginative plans mentally, which kept me from making the worst mistakes when I came home. But when I was headed home, I knew my mission and hit the ground running when I arrived. Until you put your hand on a shovel or a paint brush or a saw, no harm done to let your imagination run wild! :)...See Morecadillactaste
