Another question about Soil in the Woods...

I just posted a thread asking about scraping the top layer of the black "dirt" from years of composted leaves. I have done this before and wanted to just double check that it was indeed a good source of "compost". My question is - and bear with me because I am totally ignorant when it comes to the following: The leaves have composted into a black fine compost - does that contain only carbon and how would I go about adding nitrogen to that compost? I have already added the compost to the top layers of some borders - should I scatter - or rather mix in - some coffee grounds - I won't use diluted urine - so please don't suggest that.... Can I buy a source of nitrogen? and what would that be? Thanks -

Carrie
