cat pee'd in veggie planter...will it kill me? ;-)
Comments (15)Thimbleberry unless you talking about a really small raised bed or your cat is peeing pre-emergent weed killer the two things are probably not related. So what sized raised bed is this? But yeah, IF the problem was caused by cat rather than 50 other possibilities then just turn the soil well and flush the bed out. You don't indicate where you live but in some parts of the country leaving a soil bed fully enclosed in a clothe of some type all winter can cause all sorts of pathological bacterial and fungal growth in the soil. Comments (5)Daes, if you want to discourage your cat from using your potted plants as litter boxes, next time you eat an orange save the peels and scatter along the dirt. Cats do not like citrus scents and will avoid scratching in the area. By the time the peels dry up and need to be discarded kitty is hopefully hooked on the litter box and doesn't need to go back to your plant. I have two larger plants (fig tree in 12" pot, and a yucca in same size pot) and for added measure I found small chicky wire (1") and cut to shape to lay on top of soil. That works....See MoreCan skinks kill plants? Not skunks but the blue skinks..
Comments (25)Wow I never thought I'd see comments from this post again that was like 4 years ago. Yes I have plenty of the blue tailed skinks and some are very large, very. I think what the skinks do unless they are using toads tunnels, is make tunnels all through the ground. I think that's why the ground seems almost hollow in that area and I have seen skinks come out of the little holes. I believe I have had voles before but my kind dogs dug up the whole yard to get them and now they are gone. :/ I don't think the skinks are the roses roots that may have been voles but the skinks do a number on the spoil I think. I made chicken wire cages for the other roses along the back fence where I have the skinks problem. I don't kill the skinks, voles yes skinks no. ;)...See MoreWill BST cats be killed by frost?
Comments (13)I rescued the 2 cats a couple of days ago. One of them is looking for a place to pupate now. I have about 8 sticks in the enclosure set up at various angles, but he still doesn't seem satisifed, I keep finding him on the netting on top. I hope he picks a stick, because I wanted to move him out of the current enclosure when he's done (it's not very portable). I don't know how I could move him if he attaches himself to the side netting. I know with monarchs they wander around a lot before settling, so I'm hoping he's just doing that and will settle on one of the sticks. I haven't done BSTs before so this is all new to me. I live in the Washington, DC area. What is the cold tolerance of the chrysalides? I can put them on my deck, which is not protected, but I can figure out something to take the bite off on really cold days. I also heard that you can put them in the refrigerator (??), but not sure if you can do that for really long periods. Obviously, a different container would be needed, and then they might absorb nasty refrigerator odors! Thanks. Tara...See Morejannie
