Is it dead, or can we save it?

My partner bought a holly shrub this winter as our holiday plant. We wanted to plant it out in the garden once the ground has thawed enough and the frost danger is gone.

It had been flowering and growing rather nicely in our window. Then, the unfortunate happened. I thought my partner was taking care of the plant, and didn't realize that it wasn't being watered.

Today I found the plant to have still green, albeit wilted ends, but the older growth was rather dry and dead. I took it into the bathroom and watered the bot profusely, allowing the dried-out soil to re-hydrate.

Is the holly going to survive? Did it get unintentionally killed? Is there anything further we can do to help it recover if it can?

Thanks so much!
