camphor laurel wood chippings

I've had a camphor laurel removed and now have a huge pile of mulch from it's wood and leaves. I have found a lot of conflicting information regarding the safe use of this as mulch. I've tried searching in this forum to no avail. My soil is loamy over sandstone and the plants are australian native, most naturally occuring. I don't want to make life more difficult for them, as we are in drought.

Any advice?

Also, I've realised a lot of this mulch is from 'weedy' privet and pittosporum. Could I be in danger of spreading this back all over the garden? Do I need to compost or let this mulch sit for a time before I use it?
