Comments (30)Susan4952, don't give up on JFK. I had tried JFK twice several years ago but gave up trying to grow it. However, I decided to give it another chance and I'm glad I did. Mine bloomed like crazy last year, it made the Blue Girl jealous with its strong fragrance. However, I thought I had lost mine because it and Sundowner were really slow to leaf out. You might want to try a different location. Also, I use worm casting as a fertilizer and my roses really seem to like it. I love garden party too but it didn't survive the winter. Will probably give it another chance when there is an opening....See MoreAny experience with Queen Elizabeth or JFK roses?
Comments (5)I have grown Queen Elizabeth in Atlanta. Beautiful blossoms, bloom all summer. The black spot is the problem that gets them by the end of the summer. I don't use pesticides, so I try to control it by picking up leaves on the ground and occasionally using organic sprays. I have had two gardens and in the first one, it took a few years before the spot started. In my new garden, I have two plants and one just got spot and it is touching another plant, so it must have gotten more moisture. Even when the leaves fall off from the spot, you still have pretty flowers. I always have the climber New Dawn, which has better resistance (in my experience), and is easy. FYI: I have some photos at this link: http://web.me.com/kaylaenglelewis/Site_5/Roses.html...See MoreJohn F. Kennedy
Comments (5)Oh BTW, sympathies on the rain! I've been hearing how much severe weather Texas has been getting, and it's pretty wicked. Four inches in 45 minutes is no joke, and that's flash flood territory in most places. We are now officially in the wettest May we've ever had on record - over 11 inches at the airport (at least 2 more inches at my house's rain gauge), including a punishing 7 inches two weeks ago Wednesday. Everyone all over the state is drying out basements and the farmers can't begin to plant the fields that are totally saturated. At least western Nebraska is pulling out of their drought situation (hopefully Texas is too), but this can all change with a hot summer. Cynthia...See MoreTNY78
