Jeanne, I did some research on the Goog and I really don't think these seedlings are Gleditisia triacanthos, Honey Locust. It took me a while but, I finally found a honey locust seedling image to view. They don't look the same. The honey locust doesn't have those little pointy things at the tips of the leaves like the ones I have pictured. It's probably going to turn out to be some type of weed. I shoveled some soil in that bed that came from the woods across the street. There must have been some seeds in that soil. I've spent a lot of time in the woods for the past month or so trying to clear out ivy, honeysuckly & wild grape vines. I haven't run across any plant or tree that has a mimosa-type leaf. Do you mean "roots" or "rhizomes"? If all you see is a mass of roots, you probably have a very healthy Fargesia nitida. If you see rhizomes (i.e. thick woody roots curled around the outside that you can unravel without breaking, then you may have some variety of runner indeed.

Your best bet is going to be a deciduous Larix (Larch). A cultivar that fits what you're looking for however, I can't think of. Dax

Well something tells me World Market will be even less comfortable chairs than West Elm. There are some others I found with a similar look but who knows how comfortable these are, and they're online so I'm not sure how you'd test them out. It's proving to be quite difficult finding the color you're after. I found some in lighter shades, but the ones that are the most similar to the style you're after come in either vibrant colors or darker neutrals.
