To Prune or not to Prune that is the question

we had a warm winter and our roses are already looking like they could be blooming soon. Lots of healthy leaves, not too tall, etc. It's the middle of March, should I prune them back like I usually do? ( about 12-15 inches off the ground) or just let them grow? What's the drawback to letting them grow? I kindof hate cutting off all that new growth? Please don't tell me to check the forums, if I had time to do that, I would have my yard work done by now, ha ha
