Has anyone used milk paint or RL river rock on textured walls?
Comments (2)I used RL suede paint in a couple rooms three houses ago. The walls were in horrible shape. The two exterior walls were plaster over hollow-clay block, and the interior walls were patchy plaster and some drywall. And these were meant to have a fairly smooth texture (1926 plaster smooth, so some natural texture)). The other room was the powder room, which also had a lot of old patchy plaster that only got worse as I peeled off some hideous wallpaper. I found that the suede paint did what I wanted it to do -- it gave a consistent look to the rooms, but wasn't obnoxiously "faux finish" like many things that were happening in 2003 when I did it. I used a fairly dark paint, which I think helped, too. It was about the color of SW Grandiose (SW6404)....See MoreAny Opinions or Photos of River Rock, Exposed Aggregate Patios?
Comments (39)In my last home, on the advice of a landscape architect, we used pami pebbles for our aggregate walkway/patio and had the concrete mix tinted a medium brown-reddish color. It was a beautiful combination, especially in contrast with plant materials and a flagstone and brick accent wall. Got many compliments over the years. I didn't find it hard to walk on with bare feet because the pami pebbles are so smooth. We had our backyard patio installed a few years later by a different company and was talked out of using the same materials. Never liked the patio as much as the front yard - in looks or bare-foot comfort....See MoreBluestone pavers- grass joints, pebbles/river rocks or “seamless” ?
Comments (18)I had 24” square pavers at my mid mod house with roughly 4” between them. The front was a large terrace that spanned the front of the house and connected to the driveway with grass between the Stones. The rear of the house we had pebbles between the stones. The grass required lots of edging, the pebbles were a total pita that I would be unlikely to do again- constant use of a leaf blower to keep all the leaves and bits out of the pebbles....See MoreHow to paint river rock for an updated look?
Comments (11)I've read that river rock doesn't take paint well. I've no experience myself. But I would google about it particularly about cleaning and preparing the rock and grout for paint. I've seen a particular paint mentioned here several times as the best for painting stone and masonry - perhaps a search will bring it up, but I can't remember. I would think masonry paint, but I also see ordinary latex mentioned a lot. I'm with you, I think the river rock and wide bands of mortar are not attractive at all. I am not sure painting will help much - I'd be more inclined to cover the stone up with wood or stone tiles....See MoreMonica Foshaug
