How do I do fall prep for flowers beds covered in river rock
Comments (3)Hi transplant, I think you may be confusing mulch and compost. Mulch is a substance, organic or inorganic, that lies on top of the soil and whose main purposes are to regulate the soil temp, preserve moisture and help prevent weed growth. In your case, the rocks are your mulch. As far as feeding your plants, I'm just going to speak in broad generalizations here. Many xeriscape plants don't like rich soils or a lot of fertilizer; however a light feeding of most of them once a year is usually a good thing. Don't use a fertilizer high in nitrogen at this time of the year - nitrogen stimulates green growth. I use a liquid, organic formula that can be either sprayed on foliage or poured onto the soil. This works well for rock mulched beds. Again, this is just a generalization and you might want to do some research about the individual needs of your plants. Hope this helps....See MoreHas anyone used milk paint or RL river rock on textured walls?
Comments (2)I used RL suede paint in a couple rooms three houses ago. The walls were in horrible shape. The two exterior walls were plaster over hollow-clay block, and the interior walls were patchy plaster and some drywall. And these were meant to have a fairly smooth texture (1926 plaster smooth, so some natural texture)). The other room was the powder room, which also had a lot of old patchy plaster that only got worse as I peeled off some hideous wallpaper. I found that the suede paint did what I wanted it to do -- it gave a consistent look to the rooms, but wasn't obnoxiously "faux finish" like many things that were happening in 2003 when I did it. I used a fairly dark paint, which I think helped, too. It was about the color of SW Grandiose (SW6404)....See MoreHow to Keep Rock River in front yard Clean?
Comments (1)Is that a mesquite tree? If so, you're doomed dude. We have two mesquites in back and our yard is quarter minus gravel.....like coarse sand. I have two bushy dogs. Their favorite thing is rolling around in it, then they are covered. They will get a skinhead haircut next week. I've wondered if those brooms I see at the Asian markets would work? I'd love to hear from anyone who manages this well. Best we can figure is when the tree stops dropping we rake, sort what we can and get more gravel to replace what we lose. I learn so much from my mistakes......larger leaves would be easier to clean up, mesquite leaves are not....See MoreHow to match exterior paint to existing rock facade or recolor rock?
Comments (4)I strongly recommend painting the stones if you don't like the pinks, it would create a big impact.. You have to use a water pressure washer adding some vinegar to clean and remove the grease, let dry for 24hrs, You will need an exterior acrylic primer & sealer for the first coat and 1 or 2 coats of exterior paint in the dark rich greige for the stones and much lighter for the walls creating a nice contrast with the roof. You should go to your local paint store for the perfect primer and paint to use for durability in your climat....See Morefunctionthenlook
