New path & drainage swale

This area has been a muddy disaster for three years. Finally installed these tumbled bluestone pavers and beach pebble drainage swale. Some of the stones are brown from the clay soil being tracked on them during installation.

Finally!! A pupper photo! Cute!

Klark, you do such nice work. That's a great looking walkway. I had visions of something similar for my place before my budget got blown away.

Would you like to come back up north and help me create my new garden? 😉 DIY'ing at my age is getting to be more and more challenging. You should have seen today me hauling my two new stock tank planters through my house to the backyard (the only access). I'm sure my neighbors found it entertaining. LOL!!

Wow - that is a beautiful pathway! Great job! Your pup looks like s/he is happy this project is complete too! Pretty doggie.

A couple of questions regarding your idea about using medium sized river stones; will these be laid over gravel base or decomposed granite, or grouted? Also, anything much over 2 to 3 inches in diameter that doesn't have a flatter side that you can lay facing up will be an uncomfortable walking surface and catch dirt, and I wouldn't consider this as the best choice for a comfortable/safe well used entry walk. If it is mostly decorative and most people will use the driveway, maybe it doesn't matter to you. I love the look of a river washed pebble surface, but I always use pebbles more the size of 2 to 3 inches and press them into a dry sand/mortar mix packed together and laid vertically on edge, similar to what you see in Spain, Portugal or Brazil. Sharon I can't find the pictures of your path. I just started my adventure into gardening last year with vegetables. I was dared by my husband and that was all I needed. With the help of my dear fiend, (a master gardner and mentor) I cut down the necessary trees the next day and had the veggies & planted within the next 3days..so much for challenges in my family. I just made new beds and paths for my new perineal garden....a work in progress since it is just me and limited funds. For my paths, I called my tree man and asked if he would bring tree clipping from his jobs. To my surprise I ended up with 3 huge loads that I made my paths, saving the rest to season. Maybe not the best material for a path, but it was free and it fades into my landscape nicely. Now I am adding plants as I can afford. Love this site.

2 inches of concrete is going to crack a lot, especially if you live in a location that has ground freezing in the winter. It is simply not thick enough.

Drainage problems can be difficult to diagnose from afar. Drainage is usually not just about what's going on in your yard, but what's going on in the surrounding properties. It's about getting water OFF of your property and moving it on to someone else's ... but in a reasonable way. For me, your pictures don't explain anything. What we need to know about is the POSSIBLE PATH for water to escape. You might start with a plan sketch, explaining what the problem is, and then add supporting pictures. Pictures should be WIDE views that INCLUDE the water's possible path of escape.

Good luck with your stock tank project Pam! Keep us posted. I think your timing is perfect: new garden just after the worst winter for BLEs since 1996!!! I want one of those stock tanks too (round) but I actually want to put water in it: fish, frogs & aquatic plants. Dune likes "his" new path but Kizzie prefers to walk on the bark, shes a strange one.
