Is this twig blight/leaf spot on kerria? (pic)

This isn't a very good pic, but hopefully you can see the dark blotches on the stems and dark spots on some of the leaves. The blotches were on the stems when it arrived from the nursery about a month ago. I've done some searches on the net and twig blight / leaf spot is the only thing that has come up. If that's what it is, how do I treat it? Can it spread to other plants?

Maybe try MA Cooperative Extension for assistance. What's the black on the ground?

Yes it is.
Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to it for a few years (plants are in remote location) and infestation become too severe to be treated by fungicides, so this spring, right after the bloom I simply cut the whole thing to the ground, discarded two full bags of deseased stems and leaves and threated all root zone with chemicals.
It just start resprouting.

Been there, done that. Grown in containers, worried about the lack of flowers, and thought some disease had taken them when they started to look bad. My Yukon golds were just like that. You don't have disease, they're just done growing. They really are early varieties. Many varieties of potatoes only have a few or no flowers. If you can stand to do it, the skin on your potatoes will toughen up a little if you let all the foliage die before digging them up. Then you need to let them "cure" in a cool, dark place. But why would you want to do that? They are at their tastiest with thin skins and freshly dug up. Once the plant starts to die, the potatoes won't get any bigger. Farmers who want to store potatoes over winter worry about curing, but you don't need to. The brown spots aren't any serious disease, like blight. Just insect damage, maybe a bit of bacterial or fungal disease. But if your potatoes look like that, there's nothing to worry about. Caveat: I'm no potato farmer. I've just grown about six different varieties in tubs and barrels over the past four years and learned through trial and error. All the potatoes I grew tasted great. The harvests weren't big, and neither were the potatoes. But I've never had a store bought potato that tasted so good.

Yeah, actually it does. Seems to have whitish spots as well that turn brown and then turn into holes in the leaves. I wonder if it's transmitted by the birds that like to perch on my trellis (and poop on the squash and cukes below)?

Hi, Ken, I'll try and take a picture this afternoon and upload it but I'm headed out of town until Sunday so I may not have the opportunity. The patio tomato is, indeed, in the ground. I know--silly probably. I have a 4x4 raised bed that's very loosely based on Square Foot Gardening. Mostly, I just used the 1x1 pattern to help me with plant spacing guidelines 'cause I clearly need Gardening for Dummies. I cut out all the sod and dug down about 8 -10 inches. Then I have bricks stacked to create an edge that extends above ground level about 6". i filled with a mixture of various compost (mushroom and manure primarily), vermiculite, peat moss, and some of the existing soil. The plants literally just went in the ground on June 17th. (I know, I know... We had a crazy cold spring here that didn't ease up until the beginning of June and then I dragged my feet.) I wasn't going to plant a garden at all until a coworker gave me seeds mid-May. I figured, "What the heck. So it's a late start. If it bomb, it bombs--at least I'll have learned something and can try again next year. But then the seeds sprouted and I got all excited about a raised bed, and I bought plants and ... well, now I'm invested, lol. i can accept failure--to a degree, I'm expecting it given my abysmal track record with houseplants, but darnit, it's too soon! Sigh. If "stressed" plants get weird leaves, my plants may be in for a rough time! i need gardening training wheels.

Hi, I just bought a couple of these plants and they also have the dark blotches on the older leaves. I don't think it is anything to worry about since the younger leaves look just fine. I have had somthing similar on my lamium and goutweed. Both were severely stressed early in the season because of our drought. I cut them back to the ground and they are both regrowing beautifully. However, I would not recommend cutting back the kerria since it blooms on old wood. My guess is that the spots on the kerrias are related to some sort of stress.

When I have grown kerria I have treated it like summer raspberries, to which it is related, and cut down the flowered canes in the winter leaving the new canes to flower next year. Your kerria has a mix of old and new canes and the new ones look healthy while the old ones, apart from being diseased also have a bit of die back at the tips, so that method could work for you.

Many thanks for the responses. DH took some branches to the nursery yesterday and they advised him to cut them (there are two) to about 8" and sold him some fungicide.

I guess we'll keep an eye on them and if they don't improve, maybe try cutting them all the way back like you did ego45. Since these were only planted a month ago, they may not like such a severe cut. (That's just a guess; I'm a novice)

flora_uk, I didn't know they grew like raspberries, so that's a help. I planted raspberries last year so I'll be learning how to prune those. :)

The black stuff is compost DH added as a mulch when they started to go downhill.

Naturally, we picked these shrubs for their trouble free reputation. Ha, ha. I'm learning nothing is so simple in the gardening world.
