Wanted Seed Company Sells Blackberry and Raspberry Seeds!

I would like to broadspread Blackbery and Raspberry seeds back into our little forest.

I can't seem to google a company that sell Blackberry or Raspberry seeds. I only get plants for sell. Our forest is really depleted because an over populated Twnship. The deer have eaten everything.

The owl moved out. There is a fox. A very pregnant Raccon, whom I've been feeding from a distance. You can tell they are having a hard time finding food.

SAD!

Trade winds fruit store, and they have free shipping on all us order of 7.50 or more.

I have ordered from them and I got my seeds fast and it looked to have more than what they say on the site. I am going to sow them this winter so I really can't tell you if I have good germination or not.

They have a great selection of all kinds of rare seeds along with a great selection of heirlooms.

Ladyrose, I think you may be seeing a raccoon with thicker winter coat, not pregnant. They normally mate in January into March and have the kits about 65 days later. Our winters are mild and our neighborhood raccoons are born early May.

I'm not seeing any sites for seeds native to New Jersey/East, only those with with seeds native to the Western states and British Columbia. I wonder if your county extension agency could be of any help.

Have you tried the seed exchange for states in your general area?

My nursery is all organic as well. I have a ton of sweet pepper and Beefsteak Tomato left from last year (as well as MANY other veggies). I have replanted mine this year and they are quickly growing Beauties! I'll send some seeds strait away. I would like your Raspberry. Thanks Tamara

Ladyrose, bramble plants are cheap and they spread really fast. I have no idea if you can start them from seeds, because nobody does it. Buy them in bundles, not in pots from the big box store. You will be happier in the long run if you purchase a dozen plants and plant those. You'll soon have lots of berry plants with quality fruit. Also, that allows you to obtain varieties that are best suited to your growing conditions. The birds will enjoy it and you might be able to do some berry picking yourself. If your issue is that you don't want to spend any money, put an ad on Craigslist and ask for berry starts. Everyone who has brambles is digging out and throwing away many starts every year because the plants spread so fast.

Sorry I removed my orginal link at Photo Bucket, but I figured after about 2 years it was time to take it off. As mentioned elsewhare, its now sold under many different names Roma, Prago Trade, Weston, etc), as many brands also refer to a 'model 200'. The photo here depicts the recent design. Whereas older models had big screws and wingnuts on each side of the conical sieves to hold them onto teh aluminuum housing, and offered little proctection for leakage out the shaft. The closeups above show a couple of sieves and the smaller one appears to be the one packed with the unit. The larger holed one looks like its meant for pumpkin, etc. There is even a smaller holed one for seedy berries too, as well as a shoter auger for the big grape seeds. And lastly a 3/16 inch hole sieve for minced tomatoes and salsa.

I missed the replies because I am not so good at checking that email as I get lots of mail there. I changed it, so I will be more likely to get updates. I appreciate the replies, even though I am late reading them! I believe I have a Brunswick Fig. I dug up 2 suckers in August and I thought I let them die over the winter, but one is leafing out and I think the other one will, too. I would love a pomegranate. I have a friend in Murfreesboro who has one. I actually never got grapes off the wild vines, I use the leaves to stuff with a rice filing. I cut them way back this year. I would like a domestic grape variety. I always have less money to spend on my garden than I would like. I'm sure I'm not the only one with that problem!. I am growing more asparagus from seed. If they make it, I know it will be a few years before I will be eating from them, but i am growing enough Mary Washington plants that I should be able to share at some point. I would like very much to try my hand at growing paw paws. I read somewhere that they can be frozen whole and peeled and eaten "like ice cream" (with big seeds, I guess!) My pear tree is standard size, but I will only be getting dwarf trees from now on, I think. My 5 year old daughter wants a cherry tree. I saw some cool, but expensive 4 in 1 cherry trees. I am not sure how well they would do. I definitely want a peach tree and an apple tree at some point. I am in Nashville and don't have a good enough car to want to travel very far from home. I know there are some swaps around here, if i would pay enough attention. I need to always keep my calendar on me to take notes when I see things!

Morz8, I will try to get a picture of the raccoon. I have not seen it in a week. She looks prego!

If you are trying to restore your woods to what was growing there before, you'll find two types rubus (blackberry) native to New Jersey listed here - not seeds, just the identification.

Do you have neighbors or friends who have picked your local berries and would have some in their freezer? You wouldnt need a quart of their pie ingredients, just a handful of berries :)

If you have a deer problem, it could be a challenge establishing blackberry or raspberry, deer love both...not the berries, the vines and canes. At least here, roses, raspberries, blackberries are their top favs.

That's the problem Morz8, the Deer! This has become an over populated area and the Deer have just about demolished everything. Even the wild rose bushes.

You can see the fox scouraging for food!

just a thought, but depending on your locality, especially in the eastern states, overpopulation of deer has led to states and municipalities adopting year long bow seasons. If this is private property you are having problems with there are probably hunters in your area who would be more than helpful. Also, some states allow the taking of deer from private land without a tag, something to keep in mind. I am not necessarily saying it is the best option but for most deer overpopulation it can be beneficial to both your tract of land, the plants and animals on it, and whatever crops you may be thinking of putting in.

If it is public land, please disregard most of what I just said. You may want to encourage hunting in the area come deer season.
