I have quite a few hardy cyclamen in my shade garden. I used to try to save seed, get the film off the seed, then plant. I would have about 1 out of 7 seeds take. I read online about the seeds and doing them. Now I leave it to nature. The ants come for the seeds, and they eat the film off of the seed, then just drop the cleaned seed wherever they are. I find them growing in the gravel driveway, and in the lawn. They are short, so the lawnmower does not mow them down. The small pea tubers, just plant in shade just under the surface, letting the leaves show above ground.

Cool, moist, and DARK, and they shouldn't be too difficult. Since you are already getting self-sown tubers, those are the best way to go. Dig them up as the leaves die back and move them to some nice woodland-type soil, not too rich, not too wet, not too sunny.

I germinated my C. hederifolium seeds in moist sand in a closed (for darkness), old cookie can, lined with saran wrap (to reduce rusting of the can), at room temperature for a month to three months. They are very slow germinators, and they germinate over several months. Fresh seeds help. My year-old seeds germinated at 80%, two year-olds germinated at 33%.
