Red Osier Dogwood Propagation

I'm in central Iowa, zone 5 and my red osier dogwoods just leafed out his week. It's been a cold wet spring and we are just now getting some 70F days.

I have a new planting bed and I just took 8, 18 inch cuttings from my shrub and stuck them in a cluster in the new bed. I planted them down about 4 to 6 inches. The cuttings are last years growth.

Do I have any chance of them taking root? I'm sure the small leaves will wither and fall off, but will the cuttings stay viable with frequent watering?

Is there any advice out there about this type of propagation? I've taken cutting from many plants and had pretty good luck, but I've never tried to root a shrub.
