PS, I sometimes visit the cottage forum (although my abode is nowhere near cottagey) - nearly fell on floor laughing at the poster who confidently asserted 'everyone in the UK has a lovely cottage garden' - not in my part of the world!

I just think it is better this way. I like your forum and love the articles and photos of everyone's roses and gardens. I wanted to be a part of that too. But, I don't want to cause problems...like this.

As to the other comment that someone over there commented that "everyone in the UK has a lovely cottage garden"...that comment was about the ones who posted their beautiful photos on the Cottage Garden forum - not everyone in the entire UK.

We Americans tend to use all inclusive terms like "all" and "everyone" too much. :)

Anne, you *are* welcome here. Honestly. It's a public forum owned by a public company that wants people to come here anyway (it's not a private clique).... but aside from that, if you like to talk about gardens--- there's lots of lovely people you will relate to here.

Here is a bloom of Oklahoma last year-- doing her chalice thing.... smellls so goooooood.

Oh- one other thing. Campanula-- that thicker skin thing, I think is why English, Irish and Scots are so funny. Takin' the Pi&& is good hearted, if you can take it. Keeps things lively.

and shockingly, I love to watch British Parliament on Cspan here. Those guys are so quick on their feet it's incredible. Lightning fast brain to tongue.
Makes watching cspan of our congress look like they're all overdosed on Ambien in comparison.

Annie (if still lurking) - I know you understand the comforting familiarity we all feel about a particular forum because it operates on the cottage garden forum too - which is why we tend to stick to a particular forum regardless of the topic being discussed - because we feel we are among friends. Having built up relationships, sometimes over years, we have an all too human tendency to stay with what we know.
So, when I want to yatter on about trees (a new obsession for me) or perennials (an old favourite), we tend to post, first and foremost, on the forum we are most familiar with.
I doubt there was any personal animosity in this whole selection of posts (as a specialist in angry hostility, I can assure you of that)........
but it is in serious danger of heading that way.

Annie, everyone is welcome anywhere on the forums. As Camp says, just grow a thicker skin. Typewritten things come across differently than the same thing said in person. I love the cottage garden forum, but I just lurk there.

Yes, definitely welcome anywhere :) ...and I WILL be visiting you on the Cottage forum! I actually didn't realize until I went looking for the Cottage forum that there are so many other forums on here! I even found a couple of more I may "lurk" in like Tennessee Gardening, Greenhouses, even Companion Plants! You've enlighted me to all of these forum I didn't know existed....of course I'll still have my homepage set to the comfy & broken in Rose forums,

Yes, everyone have a great weekend - hey, it's NASCAR on Sunday, along with roasted chicken, dressing, and mashed potatoes. Could life be any better? And yes, I do have a Nascar flag waving outside the house...

ogrose- my Oklahoma does get quite a bit of shade. I am way north any way...and I wish I could get more sun to her, but I'm practically in a forest.

lola-lemon, thanks for the answer. My Oklahoma will be growing in a flowerbed on the east side of the house along with a new Firefighter and Stephens Big Purple; there is already an Abraham Darby there; should be an interesting combination, but can always move if necessary!

Nope, I'll be watching the race at home; too many times of horrible traffic, but so much fun to attend! That's what got me hooked...

Annie, if you grow roses, we would enjoy your sharing. Whatever was said will quickly be forgotten, and you will find that there are mostly gentle people here. No one intended any harm. Get well quick from your hurt feelings.

Annie---I've been on this form since the 1990's. First in Fl and now up here in N.GA. Yes, there are people on the form that can rub you the wrong way. Not everyone is a big fan of me. I just "snort" and ignore. Don't let anyone run you off. Post, reply, enjoy and sometimes ignore :)

There are lots of posters here like myself who did not read the exchange that hurt or offended some people--so we know nothing about it and are more than ready to take you at face value, starting right now! This is a public forum and anyone who likes to talk roses is more than welcome to participate. (Well, once in a while we get off into side issues, but mostly we talk roses.) I invite you to take some photos of your roses this summer and share them with us over on the Rose Gallery. Some of us really enjoy sharing rose pics and commenting on each others roses and gardens--and a clematis or daylily or iris has been known to sneak in there on occasion also--but mostly roses!
