ID Please - 2 pics

Was visiting in Virginia last year and saw this plant. Nobody knew what it was, so I took a few of the "fruit" for seeds and grew them out this year. This is what it looks like. Any idea what it is? Are they some kind of tomato? Annual or Perennial?

It appears to be a Solanum of some kind aka ornamental pepper.

Neither plant plant is getting enough light. The Pilea in particular has very elongated stems between the nodes, a sure sign of inadequate light. I suggest pruning back the stems to where the growth is more compact and then provide more light. New growth will be more compact, which is what you want with a Pilea. The coffee plant appears to be in a pot that is too large and that means the soil is not drying out properly between waterings. Excess soil around the roots retains water for too long and causes root rot. Root rot symptoms often mimic excessive dryness symptoms because the roots are no longer absorbing water properly. Can you show us some more pictures e.g. a whole plant and some whole leaves and flowers? I am hoping it is not JK and there is a little doubt in my mind. Believe me - I know that plant only too well. If it is JK it has to go - but find out how to get rid of it carefully. Treat it as if it were nuclear waste. Google for more information and also search on here.

The rose you rescued looks suspiciously like 'Dr Huey' to me. If so, the rose that was originally planted was undoubtedly a different variety that was grafted onto 'Dr Huey' rootstock. If that's the case, the original rose failed to survive the neglect & the rootstock took over. If the rose is free of thorns (or has very few), and if it is producing long cains (like a climber -- which, from the photo, appears to be the case), then you can be fairly certain that your 'Annie' is indeed 'Dr Huey'. The rose blooms only in spring/early summer & does not repeat until the following year. Here is a link that might be useful: Dr Huey @ HMF

Thanks Carrie :D For Blue Flax the soil needs to be pretty sharp draining and infertile...full sun best, partial shade ok. They aren't a long lived perennial anyways...3-4 years tops even in best conditions. If I mulch them it's with gravel. Vera

Solanum pseudocapsicum or "Jerusalem Cherry". The fruit may be poisonous. It is a tender perennial, can be moved indoors for the winter. Al

Thanks everyone! When I searched "Solanum pseudocapsicum" or "Jerusalem Cherry", it appears exactly what I have. Only one problem, it is poisonous and deadly to animals, so I guess it will have to go, since I have a dog running around the yard that likes pick its own tomatoes, strawberries, and raspberries. A unique plant, but I don't need problems! Paul
