Tell me about Rudbeckia

Hi all, I have the basic Rudbeckias in the garden - Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm', which I picked up at plant swaps and is a good old standby, and a wild Rudbeckia hirta, which reseeds everywhere and would look better in a more natural area. My Goldsturm is in a very dry sunny spot and didn't do that well in the moderate drought we had this past summer though.

I'm discovering there are many pretty cultivars of Rudbeckia species, especially Rudbeckia hirta. I ordered seeds for 'Pairie Sun' and 'Cappucino' which I'm going to winter sow. I've read these are a short-lived perennial at best though.

What are your thoughts about Rudbeckia? Which cultivars do you grow? Do yours come back every year, or do they reseed? Are they drought tolerant? Easy to winter sow or direct sow?

I'd love to hear your experiences and pictures would be appreciated too! :)
