Name That Plant!

white wildflower id help

I have searched for this plant everywhere. I live in the Ozarks in a wooded hollow. The leaves of this plant are opposite and linear with squared ends. The stem is fleshy. The buds are purplish/pinkish. The flowers are white with 5 petals. The buds are in clusters at the point where the leaf and stem meet. The cluster type is Cyme. I have pictures I can submit. Please help.

Perhaps a Valerianella.

Bingo, carol23. The narrow leaves were a problem, weren't they. Thanks for the input everybody. And Carol23's link mentions a close association with poison ivy and wood nettle...I wore shorts when I took the photos but the spring growth was still fairly restrained. If you went back there now, even with pants on, if you got caught in the rain or got dew on your pants you would be truly suffering from the nettle in no time. Reminds me of the time I stepped off in my first hill of fire ants. well, maybe not quite that bad....

Not sure about the second pic, but the first kind of looks like one of the native hydrophyllums, probably virginianum. If the younger leaves have any splotchy white markings that would cinch the deal.

I looked up your suggestions and it looks like definite matches for rudbeckia, snow on the mountain, campanula, verbena hastada, ironweed, and fleabane. I'm not sure on the yellow one. Thank you everyone! It's overwhelming when searching for these on the wildflower websites and trying to narrow it down so thanks for your expertise.

There is oxalis right nesxt to the plant in question and it does sort of look like the flowers are coming from the oxalis. If you look close though, you can tell they are coming from the oval leaf plant in the center.

Thanks, Remy, that is correct. The plant is next to an oxalis. The leaves are long and oblong opposite each other on the stem with blunt ends.

I think Carol23 is correct, the plant being Valeriana ozarkana, especially since I live in the SW Missouri part of the Ozark Mountains. Thanks Carol!
