Here is a fun one...vote for the 'best' enabler.
Comments (86)Wow, I'm coming late to this party. Ok, here's my list: Olga: Lady Hillingdon, Deuil du Dr. Reynaud, Radio Times, Yolande d'aragon, Belle de crecy, and general interest in getting more gallicas Tivoli: Clementina Carbonieri, Penny Lane, Radio Times, Wm. Shakespeare 2000 Harryshoe: Tamora, Scepter'd Isle Molineux: Molineux, Pretty Jessica, Reine de Violettes (and one day I will have Evelyn) Zeffyrose: Clair Matin, Viking Queen, Carefree Beauty LoriElf: Rhonda, Ilse Krohn Superior, Etoile de Hollande, Baronne Prevost Jeri: Grandmother's Hat Pappu: Rose de Rescht Robert: enabled me into building rebar teepees. George (roselover): enabled me to order the Prince (perhaps 3) for next year after seeing his magnificent one in person. I also might end up ordering Hippolyte, Leda, and some white clematis. That's all I can remember but there are many, many talented enablers on this forum who have contributed to my ongoing quest for more beauties. Thanks for that, Shelley :)...See MoreChoices for my show entries - please vote
Comments (6)Russ- Of the first batch-- Bodacious & Snowbound look like they have the best form & color with Bride to be & China Doll in runner-up position. In the second batch your Victoria Ann has the best form & a really good bloom position. A 45 degree angle is preferred on all but the giants & ball dahlias- they can be top sitters & not lose points. Papengo is an old variety that is a nice garden flower but doesn't win a lot at shows any more since it's quite flat. If you have an Elijah Mason with a good center it's a possible as long as the varigation is uniform. Just try to get fully double blooms that haven't blown their centers & stand up & look at the judges. Good luck!...See MoreInstant-Hot versus Pot-Filler. If you only get one, which one?
Comments (35)One nice alternative if you want but can't have an instant hot is an electric kettle---we got one a few months before our remodel, and have been using it for all sorts of things. It boils far faster than our kettle did on the gas stove, and I also love the auto shutoff. No more trying to remember if I turned the stove off after I'm at work! It will have its own space in the new kitchen, and will be the primary source for hot water. We are also in the extreme minority in GW land and only have one water source in the kitchen---not even a fridge line! (Okay, technically it's split for the d/w, so I guess that's 1.5...) It's what we had before and we liked it, so we kept it that way. Works for us. I like the idea of an instant hot, but we have a small kitchen and the under-sink real estate was too valuable to put one in. I contemplated a pot filler, but our stove is close enough to the sink that we wouldn't gain that much. Friends who have one that is very close to the sink still love it because it allows them to fill pots with a child in one arm. You still have to put the child down to empty it, of course, but makes it a little easier! We have a hot water dispenser at work, which I do use, but I do find the water is not quite hot enough for tea. I use it anyway for that since I'm lazy, though. :) (You also may be able to change the settings; no clue how it works, exactly.) I've seen steamers (someone around here who posted a finished kitchen recently has one, I think) and they're very cool, but really only logical to have if you steam things virtually every night or if you have a really large kitchen with space that isn't needed for other things....See MorePlease vote on which way these should be placed, ty!
Comments (29)Thanks for loving them too! We are so happy to have found these and trying to be patient waiting for them to be installed. But just having them sit there free-standing has greatly improved the look of the room as we'd imagined it would be. We'll have the glass door facing the living room as shown. The desk is actually being used by our son most days as he is a historical preservationist working on our local theater restoration, writing articles documenting the history of the buildings in our town, etc. The colonnades have defined the office and he looks very dignified in this space. When the two closets are relocated to the left side of this room the area will also serve as the foyer area with a coat closet (the other closet will open to the adjacent bedroom)...See Moreleemerrick
