My guess is with 7 hours of light and nothing shading it until your marginals return, you have more light than your neighbors ponds. Your best bet is to scoop out some algae, get UV and barley to kill new stuff, then plop in some floaters asap to stop the cycle. The UV light will not kill algae that is already there. It will only inhibit new algae. It also won't do anything to string or matt algae. The water though looks like the kind it will fight though. I would throw in some barley to help kill the new algae cells too. It takes about a month for the barley to break down and start killing the algae (extract solution is faster but more expensive). Then do a week or so of netting to get as much out as you can. The light and the barley will kill new stuff but to get rid of the existing stuff you need to starve it with shading floaters. If you want to combat the green fast, invest in some floaters that are already established. Water lettuce or water hyacinth or frogbit until lillies get going. Hi! Thanks for the follow ups! We don't have plants because it is a "japanese garden" and my husband doesn't want any....... I would have at least a lily, but got out voted. The pond has clarified and is looking better. I guess it just takes patience and I will be working on changing his mind about the plants. Darla, I have no idea where he came from. We have had a lot of rain so maybe he washed in or maybe he was someones pet. I really don't know. He is a lot of fun to watch. Moonie, no dead fish yet. Hi In my own experience the only thing that will stop water plants is cold . Even that just slows them down. Now is the best time to rearrange your plants . The heat is a plus . I always recommend growing "Everything in pots and even in large pools just two or three varieties. Of course the advantage is that all that growth means they are pulling all kinds of stuff out of the water. I like floaters because they are so easy to harvest and make great mulch for terrestrial plants .No chance of them growing without a source of moisture. Sandy You have my sympathy lol Ever so often I have that problem. I keep terrests in pots around the edge of my above ground and the about twice a year the coons knock them in lol. One solution I've found is to put rocks in the bottom of the planters making them heavier . gary
