mutabilis - in an english garden

User

I have just shoehorned my mutabilis into a tiny space as an understorey rose beneath a rampant Graham Thomas. Whilst doing so, I was amused at the size differences seen in this rose. Here in the UK, it might get to about 2m tall - but it will be really spindly. On the other hand, we can keep it as a nice little 70cm high bush which has dense twiggy growth, flowering at the ends of these little branches - which is how mine had better stay. Only the lush early foliage allowed mine to pass the approval test in this new garden (several worthy roses have been exiled)but even so, a nightmare vision of an enormous rampaging monster flashed across my inner eye. I have already shown it the spade of destruction - I grind the edge like a blade - a lethal WMD in my beds and borders.
