I loved Sugar Moon so much that I bought 3..... however, I am down to one... One died in my flood last fall.... and another one died by growing backwards a couple of years ago. They can get 6 or 7 foot tall here.... but I learned NOT to let them get that tall because of the canker. It seemed to me when we have our gale wind (or even just heavy wind for several days) that SM starts to get canker..... I think when his canes get whipped around it caused them to get it.... not sure, but it sure seemed like it.... I now TAKE extra long cuttings of his flowers to try and keep it short..... my bushes have all been pretty narrow... but I realized that the height of mine is probably due to my all year long growing season. I absolutely love this rose .... but it is hard to maintain. Here in Florida, mine gets just a little over half day sun.

@chris2486, I'm glad to see you on the forum still. Your PP has me drooling! That is probably the best whole-bush photo I've seen of it. Feel free to share *more* images of your plants! LOL. I've become a *huge* fan of the Kordes' roses, own-root, which you introduced over here, and Plum Perfect has shown incredible promise in my no-spray garden its first year. (DLEverette, in a few years, your Kordes roses might well look that nice. Imagine what Pink Rose's will probably look like this spring.) I do hope that Ball/Star follows through with the same sort of selection criteria. If Carmen Würth lives up to the claims of Kordes-rosen.de and is selected for introduction this fall, I'll be first in line!

Maybe it was shorter, not really smaller. But long, skinny growth doesn't mean plant is doing well; it has grown long because it is looking for some light... It is extremely etiolated, and succulents shouldn't be grown in water. It will live, but never be a plant it should be. It should be potted in a fast draining mix, and grow compact, and good green color. And sturdy stems that can self-support.

Here in E. TN, PC grows like a typical hybrid perpetual, upright, narrow, with a tendency to legginess. Mine would grow much taller if I let it. As is, I keep it to about 4 to 5 feet tall. I keep mine "dressed" to the ground by pruning the canes in staggered levels, with the inside canes left tallest, outside canes pruned the shortest, about half the height of the tallest. Late Winter/early Spring I start by whacking at least a third off the tallest canes, and work down and out from there. I also do some summer pruning, and it doesn't seem to mind. All in all, this treatment gives me more of a shrub form, instead of the bolt-upright profile it wants to have naturally. By the way, the color is indescribably rich and electric. It's dark, but glows. I've never seen a photo that does it justice, although some of Jeri's come awfully close. Her pix are why I bought PC. Also, check out the photos of Monsieur Boncenne on HMF. It has been suggested that it's the same as PC. There are a couple of whole plant pix there, but they're young plants and aren't showing the tendency to be tall and lanky. Again, if Mons Boncenne IS the same as PC, the photos don't do it justice.
