Help!!! Marigold seedlings: purple to brown to dry and flaking

Hello all :)

I started my seedlings indoors, started to harden them off. Instead of keeping them on the porch the first day, I took them out with me while I dug-- too long I think but it was late in the afternoon. Anyway I think it was probably too much too fast.

Since then my snow drift marigolds (the tallest with a good amount of well developed leaves) have purpled along the edges and had thier seed leaves start to die off. Now, a few days later, the purple has become brown and the original areas of purple are brown and dry-- dead like a fall leaf.

Could this be sunscorching? Could this be a disease? Why is it just effecting my most well established plants? Is this just a natural thing for the plant to be weakened when it's seed leaves are dying and this caused extra stress with the quick climate change?

If you have ideas about any of this let me know. Thanks!
