"FORGOTTEN ROSES"

I mentioned this March Seminar earlier, but now we have a flyer available with complete information

on the website of the Heritage Roses Group.

You'll find the information at the top of the home page, and you can click for a pdf copy of it.

This is, btw, the OLD website of the HRG.

Within days, we will be up and running with a new version of the website (at the same address).

Shortly, those who receive the HRG "Rose Letter" digitally will be able to download it directly from the site, or read it on line without downloading it.

Very glad to see that this "April seminar" is still in March! You had me worried there...I will be there with a friend - hope to be able to chat with you.

So this isn't the same as the Heritage Rose Foundation (which I joined a few weeks ago)? Why are there 2 separate groups with the very same goal?

Suggest you contact a local garden center, botanical garden or horticultural association for possible local speakers. I conduct many seminars and classes on a range of horticultural topics, but Chicago is a bit far afield for me :-) I'd also try to schedule it a bit closer to the growing season to generate maximum attendance - even in my very mild climate, only diehard gardeners have much interest in organic gardening practices and lawn care in February and March, but in April when things start waking up and lawns are on folks' minds, attendance at gardening seminars and classes swells.

I will be there tomorrow with a friend. We lucked out on the weather - it was 75 degrees here yesterday, and looks like it will be at least that today, and the same is predicted for tomorrow. We might even get to see some blooming roses at Garden Valley Ranch! In my garden, the Spring flush bloom has started on my banksie lutea, Belle Portugaise, Safrano, Anna Olivier, Le Vesuve, & Duchesse de Brabant. Happy Spring! Jackie

Orange City Home Depot will be having a FREE seminar saturday, April 23rd from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Tom Maccubbin will be speaking on Florida gardening and Karen Stauderman from the Volusia County Master Gardeners will be speaking and answering questions on turf in Florida. Growers and vendors will also be present to answer questions. should be a good time, was packed last year!

Yes Jackie, I am ECSTATIC about the Web Site. In a few days,it will be completely different.

Carol -- You are correct.
The Heritage Roses GROUP
is older, and different from
The Heritage Rose FOUNDATION.

Though our goals are similar, our approaches are quite different.

HRG is an informal alliance of local groups and individuals, strung together by a quarterly "Rose Letter."
We are the ORIGINAL organization dedicated to old, rare, and endangered roses -- and our approach to them leans in the direction of Rose Collection, Preservation, and Propagation.
We're the folks most likely to rassle up a Rose Rustle, or participate in an Open Garden.
Our Seminars are likewise somewhat informal, and allow lots of time to schmooze.

HRF, a few years younger, is more formally organized.
It publishes, nowadays, a Bi-Annual Newsletter (tho that changes). And this is the group which is most likely to put on more formal Seminars.

Many of us are members of both organizations, and feel that they compliment each other.

My problem is that for the last week or so I have been IMMERSED in the catalog for the Open Garden and Rose Sale at the Sacramento City Cemetery. And that, of course, is in mid-April.

I'm amazed to see how close the March Seminar actually IS!
