Baby Austin and Rogue Valley Roses

Rogue Valley Roses has this cutie. I'm anxious to grow it. RVR also now has some Pernetiana roses including the HT's Federico Casas and Catalonia, both are beautifully tempting! Basye's Purple looks gorgeous too. So, who's ordering these?

Hey Carla:

The subject of Baby Austin came up over the weekend during a discussion about Little Pinkie. I am planning a trip up to Oregon in May and plan to stop by Rogue Valley Roses then. I have a suspicion I won't be leaving there without Baby Austin and probably several other roses I neither need nor have room for. I can't wait.

I've seen Baby Austin entered in a few rose shows and it is a cutie! I hear that it is a very good bloomer on a nicely shaped plant.

May 15, 2017 - I'm posting this as many places as I can to warn people. Apparently RVR is under new management and they just stole $32 of my money. Details follow. AVOID ROGUE VALLEY ROSES, NEW MANAGEMENT DISHONEST. I've had excellent experiences with Rogue Valley Roses in the past. However, they are under new management and they just stole $32 of my money. To be precise, I ordered two roses this spring, they were healthy and grew well, but when they bloomed, it became obvious that one of them had been mislabelled - they accidentally sent the wrong rose. No big deal, just send me the right rose or refund my money. I sent three emails, got no response whatsoever, so I went to phone calls. Got a man who never gave me his name and wasn't particularly polite, made it clear he didn't really want to be bothered. He told me the company was under new management, they'd been backlogged and were struggling to catch up and would get to my issues as soon as they could. I waited a week, nothing, so I called back. Same again. Last week, after three emails and three phone calls, I told the guy I wanted my money and I wanted it within three days, no more postponements. He said, "Okay, I'll use PayPal and send you an instantaneous transfer so you can have it right this minute." I said fine. But, it's been three days and the money isn't in my account. So I called back and he said, very self righteous, "I refunded your money last week." But he didn't. I don't have the money. I even logged into PayPal to see if anything was being held in PayPal rather than put in my bank account. Looks like Rogue Valley Roses has stolen $32 of my money.

Your Comice de Tarn-et -garonne is gorgeous, Micheal! Thank you for posting these pictures. I like seeing what Comice can do. I received a mature Comice from someone this past January, and we had to cut it WAY back to dig it up and transport it home. It’s finally starting to recover from the move. My Comice is sending up new growth and a random bloom here and there. I can’t wait for my Comice to bloom as much as yours! Isn’t the fragrance wonderful? rifis (zone 6b-7a NJ), I'm not sure how large the holes are in the fencing. I've been very lucky so far. Maybe the bunnies are too lazy or nervous to go through the fence, thank goodness. In earlier spring something (maybe a bunny or a number of other animals) chewed one of my baby Princess Charlene de Monaco roses before I protected it. Whatever is nibbling on them, they seem to like the youngest roses the best. Thank you for the tip about the fence sizing. I wish I'd bought a smaller size but thankful this one has been ok so far. LauraLG Z5b-NwPA, I'm so glad to know that, thank you. It seems to be a unique rose. I have to resist buying more than one rose unless I really, really have a good sense that I'm not going to regret it. What a cute pic! It's amazing how fast some roses can grow. That puppy is stocky. He must be growing just as fast. Labrador retriever or golden labrador? I can never tell them apart. Paul Barden, I agree, you can't put a price on joy. I'm pretty happy I was able to obtain this rose and look forward to seeing it grow.

If its flowering now, it cant possibly be ’Marianne’. Sadly, it appears that many (most?) plants of ’Marianne’ RVR has sold in recent times are mislabeled plants. Be sure to ID your plant and follow up if you’ve got the wrong rose. @Meg-zone8aOR My guess us that its an Austin, given your description of the fragrance.

I am a sucker for miniatures and cute names too. I think we all need one!
Kate, I would like to visit the CA and OR vendors just once. Especially would like to visit RVR.

AWWWWWW baby Austin is a SWEETIE!!!!! That is such a sweet name and a sweet looking rose. The pictures seem to be half divided between it looking apricot and pink. Wonder which one it tends more too? April

I agree with ya Carla!! I love the cute little names. I ordered this one this past fall and already got it in the ground. I hope it survived the cold, cold weather we had this winter but so far so good. Judy

'Baby Austin' is one of the "bloomingest" little roses I have ever grown. It gets a ten out of ten from me. Superb Miniature in every way.

Wow...these posts make me even more excited that I just ordered a Baby Austin online last night from Rogue Valley.
I love the cute names, too. I used to raise and show shelties, and was always keeping my eyes and ears open for neat names for our puppies.

The only thing I don't like about my Baby Austin is the center browning so quickly.
Don Marshall makes beautiful buds/flowers when they are successful, but most often scorch and spoil. ai save the nice ones for dry rose bowls. When they are good, they are very good, but usually not.
I think Cafe Ole, Green Diamonds, Mary Adair, Suntan, Teddy Bear and Si are my favorites.

I had 'Catalonia' and got a few gorgeous flowers from it, but it was badly cankered so I removed it.

Well I bought one at Rogue Valley Roses a couple of months back but it is still very tiny. Just getting its first bloom now. Very pretty, so petite. Too young to really comment on except I've paid very little attention to it except keeping it watered since bringing it home and so far so good.

My Rogue Valley Baby Austin arrived this morning, and I just want to comment that this is my first order with them, and the packing was GREAT and the little bush is just perfect, complete with buds! Can hardly wait to see the blooms! It's right by my front door, where I can keep a close eye on this baby! BTW our first two canaries hatched today, too...what a GOOD day!
