Hi, Michelle ... I can't answer your question about seed collecting from statice ... I'm just chiming in for moral support because I WSed this plant also and want to collect seeds. I'd like to have it every year. I love the yellow. For IDing your colors, do you have any ribbon scraps? Loosely tie color-coded scraps to the plants. Colored rubber bands might work, too. Just loop them around the flower heads. You could also write the color on a mini-blind scrap and tuck it into the soil at the base of the plant. Hope someone answers your question about seed harvesting.

Ok, right after i posted that I went, duh, trudi has got to have info on the Butterfly Bush seeds on wintersown.org!! So I checked, and sure enough, very detailed, w/ pics!!! Thanks for that site trudi!!! So should I go w/ the same basis w/ the Astilbe? Wait till about half the seeds start to brown and then clip, and dry and wait for the rest to mature??

I run down to my salvias everyday and stickybeak inside the calyxs it is fun, I noticed my salvia greggii navaho pink have set seeds, they are cool to watch when the seeds are ready the calyx actually bursts open and you can see the shiny black seeds are ready to collect,before they burst you feel the calyx and you know which ones have seeds they are full but the calyx is closed. Other salvias you can look inside to see seeds forming, it is an adventure with different salvias doing different things. Enjoy:)

All this info is very very helpful..It's funny, but every year when I leave my hanging baskets to freeze during the winter and if left alone come spring, every one on my plants re grow themselves by seed and grow to their true plant but always too late.. So I decided to gather the seeds this year and start them under warm lights early, like let's say in March, and was not sure if they required cold like winter to be viable come spring like they do when they come back in my pots. But from the looks of things it seems that all they need to be is kept cool and dry until next year. That's easy enough... As for whether they are hybrids, I have NO idea. I just buy them. That is not into the nursery gives you nor something that I thought to ask. I am in love with this particular petunia because I have never seen it sold locally and the color of pastel purple to almost blue is almost a glow in the dark come dusk color and the fragrance is heavenly to boot which it can be difficult to find FRAGRANT petunias..Funny thing, but most people I speak to didn't even know they were fragrant until I had them smell these ones..Almost like a sweet cotton candy smell. I will post a pic soon and then maybe some one can tell me if it's a common petunia or a hybrid? Thanks
