has anyone put a liner in a preform? think i have a leak!

I have a 7x4 preform that has given me no problems for over 6yrs (no waterfall, just bubbler). Recently, I've had to top off on a regular basis (3-4" every 2 days) and I don't think it's from evaporation. Yesterday, it rained like crazy and this morning, pond was still down about 3". I'm pretty sure the water loss has to be from a very tiny leak since it takes about 2 days for a 3-4" loss. I've tried the cornmeal(used 1/2 cup)suggestion to stop a leak... for several days, it worked, but I hate to keep adding cornmeal as the stuff clouds the water and foam starts.

I don't have room to enlarge my pond (wish I did). Has anyone ever inserted a liner within a preform? I don't want to try and find the leak for repair because of the age of my preform. I'm thinking insert pond liner, leak fixed! This alone will take a day's work because of the two tons of rock I have around the pond edge.

Help and any suggestions appreciated. THANKS much
