Thanks for the replies lazy, mammie, and rox. I think it might be a Veronica of some sort after googling the other plants. I'm still not 100% sure on that though. Here is a up close leaf shot if it helps to confirm it is in fact a sort of Veronica plant.

Mexican Petunia is one of the Ruellia species.Some of them are considered invasive, I think its the seeds that spread around but they may have runners too. There are tall ones and short ones and most tend to be blue, purple or pink. There may even be a native one - there is one or two from the central plains states. I've never seen anyone succeed at keeping portulaca alive outdoors through the winter in the Raleigh area. I've never seen anyone succeed at overwintering any of the red or red splotched Musa species in the ground. The big and darker red Ensente species will sometimes make it if you protect them with a cage of wire filled with dry leaves.

man you have a nice collection of weeds .. lol ... dont let fancy latin names.. confuse you into thinking many of these have much value in the common flower garden ... though on the other hand.. some peeps have what they call 'native' gardens... where they grow common weeds called natives... lol all the power to you on what you choose to grow ... ken
