COLOSSUS is beautiful when it blooms, which isn't all that often for me. But I like it well enough to keep it. I seem to remember it might get some BS tho. Plant is about 3ftx3ft.

BRIDE'S DREAM also is not a great bloomer for me. Nothing exciting about it. There are lots of better pinks. My plant grows about 4-5ftx3ft.

BRONZE STAR is in a pot. Grows about 2-3ftx2ft. Lovely blooms that repeat pretty well, but kinda blow quickly. I don't recall it getting much disease.

ORCHID MASTERPIECE is a very interesting climber. Doesn't get more than about 8-9ft. The blooms are a really cool color. Sort of a mauve with rusty tones in the center. Doesn't repeat well. No disease. I think it needs to be pruned regularly to get a better repeat.

CHOCOLATE SUNDAE was new for me last yr and I think I'm really going to like it. Love the color and the blooms. They last a long time for having few petals. Hasn't grown very tall so far, but it's still in a pot waiting for me to figure where to plant it!

I grew Therese Bugnet (it was hybridized here in Alberta by Bugnet (Boo-nyeh))in zone 2. Fragrance is fantastic. However, we had really strong winds there, and every single time the bush flowered, the wind came and blew all of the petals off. It was very frustrating. But if you don't have strong winds - the flowers and fragrance are amazing. Very beautiful. Seemed really healthy to me.

Thanks ladies for your input. These are some of the ones I don't usually see in our local stores and thought I might try a couple since they are available. I wish the Orchid Masterpiece was a true purple climber. You know how the purples tend to lean more mauve on lots of them but I still might give it a try. Thanks again for your help, Judy

Therese Bugnet--a great rose for the North, but not sure I'd recommend it for zone 7. It doesn't repeat much, and here (cool summers) it had a lot of spot anthracnose disease (looked messy up close).

Pink Traviata--resistant to blackspot in some gardens, repeats well, notable for its immensely stout and tall upright growth, if you have a spot that wants that.

New Day--this is one of the prettiest yellow roses, with soft color and sculpted form. Very susceptible to mildew and blackspot. Fragrant Cloud and Mirandy are of course very fragrant. Mirandy tends toward garnet tones. Wasn't a great bloomer for me.

I just got Pink Traviata last spring, so I don't yet know what its size will be, but I did like the beautiful, old fashioned look, many petaled blooms. They lasted a long time, too, but there weren't very many of them so far.

Jean Giono is one of my best and favorite roses. It is a yellow rose, streaked with orange veins with many petals. It gets better each year and I have had it a long time. It changes according to temperature and conditions so it is never boring.

Bronze Star: one of the more disease resistant roses I grow (and I don't spray) and it has large blooms with a very strong fragrance. (I even grew it for 7 years on the north side of the garden in definitely part shade conditions.) Blooms last well as cut flowers (the large blooms in cooler fall weather in those golden apricot tones are especially fabulous) and a few in a vase perfume the whole room. Growing in full sun, I've seen the flowers fade out to ivory, but here in part sun they hold their color very well.

Centennial Star: balled badly here. A very nice somewhat unusual fragrance (discernible notes of pear if I'm remembering right) but it was never strongly fragrant for me and had quite a bit of blackspot.

Mirandy: she nods her blooms (can be charming, but is usually not what people looking for a typical HT want) and was often rather pinkish for me. I think there are probably better strongly fragrant reds. (Oklahoma and Firefighter are two good ones here-Oklahoma more disease resistant, but Firefighter more productive)

Sorry I don't have input on your other selections. I've read from members here that I respect that Traviata is very disease resistant (but not fragrant) and if Pink Traviata is related/a sport I'd imagine they share similar characteristics?

I share Beth's mixed opinion about 'Colossus'. The blooms can be quite lovely, but the plant has a peculiar growth habit that I don't care for. It tends to produce many of its blooms on very short lateral stems -- not Grandiflora-like candlelabra, but short stems that are rather widely spaced along the upper part the cane.

'Orchid Masterpiece' can be a breath-taking climber during its spring flush. I don't have a great deal of experience with this rose (I got it about 5 yrs ago as a body bag & it was slow to establish), but I'm not sure I agree with Beth's comment about regular pruning to get better repeat. I think it's a rose that just naturally doesn't repeat well, and its heaviest bloom seems always to come on older growth. OM responds well to rich soil and a regular diet of organics. Be aware that it's a BS magnet. If BS is an issue in your area, and if you don't spray, I suggest that you avoid it.

Thanks Diane, I did decide to go ahead and get Pink Traviata. Its the only one thats a definite at the moment. They were only selling 5 of that one so I went ahead and snatched one up.

Kathy, I have seen several pics of Jean and loved it. The coloring is so pretty. If I have a space I will probably add it.

Littlesmokie, Bronze Star and Centennial Star are gorgeous. I had an opportunity to purchase them before and didn't. I really don't want another one that balls so will probably skip it for sure.

Jaxondel, Orchid Masterpiece sounds like it would be so pretty but if only it would bloom continously. I might decide on that one once I see it bloom if they don't sell out before I get back to them.

I have two of those mentioned.

Jean Giono has a very unique bloom. Beautiful rich yellow color streaked with orange, the double bloom resembles a dahlia to my eye. Canes develop into very thick, thorny ones with some spread but the bush doesn't get much taller than 4' in California. Pretty easy care for a yellow rose.

Fragrant Cloud lives up to its name in the fragrance dept--it is very powerful, more than Tiffany even. Grows rather vertical for me and like a true HT--tall canes with one bloom per cane. Flowers start out as tight pointed buds but will open into very full and large flowers. Besides its fragrance, its other special quality is its color--a very bright, distinctive coral red that is awesome, yet hard to blend with other rose colors. You can't put it next to another red or mauve/pink as it clashes.

Fragrant Cloud is the most fragrant rose, maybe only second to Double Delight. It gets BS, but if you spray it will do well in your yard. It has lovely blooms as well:

Hi Elise & Buford! Fragrant Cloud sounds like one I need to look. You just can't beat a great smelling rose and one that looks to be beautiful. The color sounds great and would probably look good with some splashes of purple planted around it. I do spray for blackspot so thats a plus too.
