I have one year plants of Aloha & Laguna. So far I'm most impressed with Aloha which put on about 10-12 feet of growth in our short season last year. Laguna hasn't so far put on as much growth as Aloha, but it is a very nice rose and I've heard lots of good things about it, so I'm anxious to see how it does this year. All of our new Kordes roses have really done well for us considering they were just planted last year. Moonlight is another nice one although it has less petals. All have been very disease resistant if one year can tell the story! Amadeus has not done much so far and I'm not crazy about the flowers and I have just planted Jasmina and Golden Gate, so I can't comment on them yet.

I hate the reuse of names. I really hate the reuse of names when the original name is still in use. And I really, really hate when there is a similar look to the roses.
Unless the date of 2003 is wrong and it's the old Aloha that they are selling. (In the immortal words of Emily Lytella, in that case, nevermind)

Thanks for the lovely photos Salita. Aloha and Laguna look wonderful and were highly recommended by Rahel at Palantine as well as on the Kordes web site. I was hoping Amadeus would be a nice red, are the blooms unattractive?
Anne, I think Aloha is indeed a different rose; I also don't know why they used the same name. I grew the old Aloha in my old garden, it was pink, not apricot, but it was a lovely rose with good scent and rebloom and reasonable disease resistance, but the new one is supposed to be bullet proof as far as blackspot is concerned. I may grow the old one again if I can find it, but wanted to try some of the new ones.

Amadeus blooms were not attractive and the overall growth was not as good as I would have liked. However, it's really not fair to evaluate a rose after only one year. We have had many years when we were disappointed in a particular rose only to have it excell the following year. As I have read and heard many times, a rose needs at least three years sometimes to show its stuff.

Hi Salita, where in Canada do you live? 10-12' growth in the first year for Aloha is very impressive!
Hmmm Amadeus looks so pretty on the Kordes web site. Do you have another favorite crimson, magenta, or deep red climber that you recommend? It sounds like you have all the new Kordes climbers, I look forward to hearing how they perform for you this year especially if you are in a similar climate. Robin

In its second year, Laguna covered an arbor and was loaded with very double deep pink blooms. Maybe too vigorous, as it needs lots of pruning.
