Comments (31)That's a definite possibility, Christopher. MANY body bag, inexpensive producers supply roses of similar color to the name on the tag. Add the public's knowledge of the Sterling Silver name and it's a done deal. MANY years ago, I managed a jewelry department for a SoCal dept. store. I grew dozens of different lavender-lilac-mauve roses. I'd taken an enormous bouquet with many dozens of various blooms in those tones and set them on the counter. I can't tell you how many people passed by and exclaimed, "Look at all those Sterling Silvers!". Ironically, there were NO Sterling Silver blooms in the bunch. At that time, I had refused to grow it due to its demonstrated poor performance in my area. It wasn't until I obtained the florist stock of SS, the one I shared with Vintage that performed significantly better, I permitted it in my garden. Kim...See MoreFavorite HT/Grandiflora?
Comments (84)Since responses have tapered off a bit for now, I thought I might give you the HTs with the most votes so far. Keep in mind that so many HTs were named (over 70) that most of the selections got one vote only, so I'm listing the more limited number that got 2 or more votes. Peace--8 votes Double Delight--6 votes Queen Eligzabeth--4 votes Memorial Day --4 votes Yves Piaget--3 votes Red Intuition--3 votes Neptune--3 votes Tiffany--3 votes Pope John 2--3 votes You know, that top list looks similar to the one I remember from several years ago. Maybe Red Intuition and Pope John are new to the list. I guess we have located what are called "perennial favorites" here, haven't we. I guess these would go in the "honorable mention" category. Gemini--2 votes Firefighter--2 votes Garden Party --2 votes Veteran's Honor--2 votes Mrs. Oakly Fischer--2 votes Louise Estes--2 votes If anyone wants to go on adding your 3 top nominations, feel free to continue. We can re-total later, if necessary. : ) Kate...See MoreWould Firefighter be Redundant?
Comments (17)I don't know how Firefighter could POSSIBLY win over my Chrysler Imperial spot in my heart, but he now has the chance to do so, being a stud in my garden, which cracks me up, as there are two studs about 200 feet away - actual horse stallions - the real deal! They'd trample me calling that little bundle of leaves a stud. Ok - I have enough smelly reds to not need any crispy critters in my garden, so maybe I'll axe the only rose on my being cut to nothing wish list, so I - like Campanula, can stop buying any more roses and enjoy what I have. I'm just thinking about the next two weeks or so, and how much mulching I have to do. No, I'm not even looking (or will pretend I didn't) at Velvet Fragrance. Harryshoe - two on your list (plus Firefighter) - Peace and Tiffany are new for me as of fall. I'm glad they are so pleasing to you, I really look forward to them. Heirloom was one of my first year purchases, and has been and remains one of my favorites for color, fragrance, and form....See MoreNeed true red HT rose with good shape to tolerate full sun zone 7b
Comments (20)All my roses have to put up with extremely hot dry summer heat in zone 10 in full sun. If fragrance is not a must for you I would suggests Kardinal. The blooms are perfectly shaped, beautiful bright cardinal red, slow to open if used as cut blooms and lasts a long time in the vase while opening slowly. If you like strongly fragrant cut blooms I would recommend Firefighter. The repeats are fast, the thorns are small and blooms held on long stems and open to very double blooms that smell like heaven: If you would like a short dense bush ever-blooming extremely fast repeat even flowering through the winter for me in zone 10, I would recommend the good old Crimson Glory: The flowers of CG blow much faster than Kardinal and Firefighter though. If you like a bright brick red huge blooms opening slowly on the bush you can consider Dolly Parton:...See Moreharmonyp
