Get dirty, be happy
Comments (7)Great news! Not that any of us needed a reason (excuse?) to get our hands dirty! lol! I can see the dirt marketers now: "Don't worry, Get Dirty!" Buy brand X and apply liberally to your gardens. Playing in the dirt twice daily with your favorite shovels and rakes will result in less tension and a feeling of well being. *Side effects include frequent nursery stops, a permanent pot ghetto, and a sudden urge to compost. If you find yourself collecting newspapers and coffee grounds, tell a fellow gardener, who'll understand and possibly accompany you on your next plant binge or at the very least trade seeds with you. (which will of course result in you needing MORE brand X dirt ; ) and the cycle continues) Diana...See MoreWANTED: Apples, plums Wanted/Have

Comments (10)Nell so glad to see you back and showing what you've been up to in that lovely garden of yours. What can I say my garden will always be a work in progress, I am always editing, I like a full looking garden so as a rule I usually over plant and then have to remove some. In other words my plants seem to be playing a continual game of musical chairs. I have been working on my bed between the shed and my lath house, I wish I had taken pictures of it last summer as sometimes memory isn't quite good enough. I removed two huge clumps of Astrantia (species types) and a bunch of seedlings, left a couple of red ones, hopefully I've got rid of most of the darn couch grass that seems will forever be a thorn in my side as well as my plants. This stuff is just like wire and will drill right through lily bulbs. I was just congratulating myself on not trodding on any emerging lilies a yearly occurrence with me, well... while yarding on a long piece of couch grass I decapitated a large lily two feet away. I can't win it seems. I've got lots of Lupine seed sprouting which I'm going to plant in this bed and in other places around the garden, tomorrow I'll be mulching with maple shavings to help keep the weeds at bay so I can start cleaning up another area. The weather was not co-operative last fall so most of the garden beds look like .... I have been gardening most of my life you'd think I would have got it right by now. Since joining this forum I have discovered how much I don't know, you guys are teaching this old gal a lot of new tricks.:o). I do plan to take loads of pictures this year and hopefully this will help me in making better placement choices. Annette...See MoreHow to: Edit your garden zone on gw profile
