Anyone grow sweet briar rose?

I'm not sure if it goes by any other name or not, I got it from highcountry gardens a few years ago. It has single flowers and the foliage smells like apples after it rains. So far it's one of my few roses to survive the deer onslaught that have reduced basically all my roses to either 4 inch sticks or rootstock.

The other fall I noticed that the plant has a LOT of what look to be galls on the stems. There were a lot of them, I pruned most of them off. They were the size of marbles or smaller. Any one else have this happen to their rose?
