We've grown SC for maybe 20 years. Yes, a lovely mound of a plant -- and it makes a terrific patio-size weeping standard. Like most roses which are heavily invested in Multiflora, it struggles a bit here with chlorosis -- but it is otherwise a wonderful rose. A classic.

I also grow 2 of these and thought they would be a bit more lax. They are lovely plants, nice and bushy and mounding, but they don't really "weep" much for me. They used to weep a bit more than they do now - they'd be less bushy if I hadn't started using hedge clippers on them (hand pruning got wearisome). I do love this rose though - the blooms are gorgeous and smelly. I'd love to see this one on a standard - I dislike lollipop standards, but this one would be pretty.

Boy, I wish mine were that poiple, but all five of my plants opened sprays of pank and white.

Gosh! Cass, I'd ha' thought yours would be VERY purple!

Poiple here in Sacramento, just like Robin's photo. Not as fragrant as touted, at least to my nose. And after at least eight years in the ground, went from lax and low to bushy and mounding this spring. So many roses got suddenly bigger this year. Was it the January cold snap? The load of manure??? A conspiracy by the roses to take over every available inch, and then some????

I bought 3 as bands last year. They are all 24" mounds and growing. What a vigorous healthy bush.

Do you treat them for chlorosis? I wonder if the leaf color would become deeper. They are light green here, even with my acid soil. Maybe I'll feed with MirAcid.

Mine are pinkish, stiffly shrub-like. Healthy, but healthy is about it for mine.

I have 5 and they are purple.

*** Harry, I do, periodically, and yes, it really makes a difference. I don't do it consistently, however. Sheer laziness! Our WATER is highly aklaline, so no matter WHAT we do to treat, conditions always return to alkaline fairly quickly. I'm really about "due" to hit them again.

So for chlorosis you give extra iron? I have a bag around here somewhere... but mine have always been a pretty purple.

Robin- yours is much bigger and droopier "weepier" than mine.. so pretty. Mine is like a very compact big bushy dense shrub.. Almost like a perfect circle.

mine is relatively new, safely ensconced in a hanging basket because the giver told me that it would look good in one. Thus far some nice purple/hot pink flowerage, but not much hanging from the basket... and the smell hasn't knocked me down yet. It may end up plopped in the ground to cover a bare spot...

This little rose is quite hardy too. I left it outside in a pot all winter. It was just as green as its two pals which were direct planted. This was the first time that I ever successfully left a potted rose outdoors all winter.
