Spike questions

I am growing under lights near a west/northwest window on metal shelves and have several orchids starting to spike. The shelves have two shoplights each with T12 bulbs, and the shelves have different spacing for taller and shorter orchids. A Phal has leaves 5" under the lights and I was wondering where do I move it to provide enough space for the spike to grow and how do I get the best flower orientation? Do I spotlight it and place it lower on another table? I also have some Oncs spiking that are 10" away from the lights and I know their spikes will be longer. Thanks, Tom
