the Prince and other Austin 'purples'

I found this image of The Prince online, and wonder if those of you who grow it can comment on whether or not this is the true color? Any advice on other Austins in this color range would be appreciated...I want the purplish red. I already have Munstead Woods and am very happy with that, which is a different shade of red for me. What about Darcey Bussell? Would that be a better choice, do you think? I am thinking in terms of vigor, as The Prince has not always gotten rave reviews in this forum, I have noticed.

Yes that color looks accurate. Sometimes The Prince shows red, but it's usually a deep purple.

The color looks accurate, though there can be some variation. During our very hot summers, I think The Prince might be a little lighter. This photo has got to show more than one plant. The Prince is in the 3 1/2 X 2 1/2 foot range for me. Diane

No not too dark at all nice drama somtimes you can get them printed on acetate and put them in a light frame. Beautiful rich color. If this is a favorite shade for you look at Canary Island on Helpme find roses alas it's a once bloomer.

I also have Purple Prince and love it. Very hearty here and resistant to BS without spraying. I got Glow and Dawn potted from a local nursery last fall, so a little early to say much about them yet, but so far both doing well and both are nicely leafed out already here in zone 8. I planted both of them last fall.

What I can say about Brindabella purple Prince is that it has the best attitude of any of my roses. First of all it arrived as a tiny stick with a couple of leaves. It took right off in a larger pot. Then it ended up in a location that ended up boggy. Still it bloomed and grew with no complaint. So I moved it into a big pot and out of the bog and still bloomed without missing a beat and no disease. This week BPP got moved again , this time in to a 4x4x3 planter box. The day ended in the upper 80s and no complaint, no stress a d today I noticed 2 new buds. I love and appreciate this non complaining rose It smells delicious and blooms frequently.

Very fragrant, too. 'Darcey' is a lot lighter and hasn't much fragrance. 'Darcey' does have vigor and rapid rebloom.

Yes, I should have mentioned that my Prince doesn't have very rapid rebloom, but I attribute some of that to his being in part shade which cuts down on blooming, but also cuts down on sunburning of the petals. Diane

Thanks much! I have ordered one for this spring. I actually like it that the Prince can be in part-shade...that suits my growing conditions better than full sun. I have also ordered Tranquillity, the new Austin white rose.
