Purple Price is PL and I have grown it and it's one of the parents of Pale Perfect Purple bred by Tad Smith **** Yes Helen, I mentioned that in an earlier post.( SMile) Tad crossed Purple Price with Ozark Pink and Pale Perfect Purple was one of his selections. And now something to chuckle about. When Tad first made PPP public he called it Pale Perfect Purple, but then apparently forgot that name and then called it something a bit different the second year, so for a while, and I didn't take the time to check this out with the most recent Yearbook, it was called Perfect Purple, Purple Perfect and also Pale Perfect Purple all in the same YEarbook. LOL I stick with his original name for it which is Pale Perfect Purple, b'c it is. ( smile) I've grown Purple Price itself and the taste is stronger than with PPP, probably b'c of some of the taste genes from Ozark Pink that were inherited by PPP. I'm just so sorry I've lost touch with Tad b/c he was a good friend of mine as well as Craig LeHoullier. Tad sent several of his F1 seeds from crosses he made to both of us and the fruits were lucious. He has a Ph. D in I think plant breeding and for many years worked in the peanut fields in the south on some project, got tired of bending over in the heat so much and moved to a well known firm whose name I've now forgotten where he headed up the division working on Late BLight with potatoes. One year he sent me a three way cross he'd made for me to grow out, he said I had a 1/64 chance of getting what he wanted. The first year I planted out only 12 plants and lucked out and got it. It's a small yellow/gold with red stripes and I cleverly named it Tad. LOL I sent seeds to my tomato friend Craig, which was fine with Tad and Tad asked that that Craig and i not share seeds of it until he had a chance to upsize it, which never happened. So what's my point? The origin of Lucky Cross and Little Lucky, both gold/red bicolors now well known, is now known to be an accidental cross bwetween Brandywine and Tad that occurred in Craig's garden. Quite a few folks are still working with different selections from that initial cross and when I saw a picture of one of them named Striped Sweetheart, I could see Tad written all over it. It's a selection done by Lee, who is the co-organizer of Tomatopalooza in Raleigh along with Craig, and I know Lee well, he's actually doing some seed production for me this year, so Lee sent me some seeds and it's on my grow out list for this summer. Craig has another one and maybe I can fit it in next year. PPP also can also refer to Pink Ping Pong, so we shouldn't forget that either. Wow! I didn't watch the whole thing, but I'm wondering......where is his placement of these? Is it by a field or a pond? Does having that many of one kind of bird in that area have an effect on other birds?

Well, Judi, The Prince doesn't really like it hot and dry, so he will challenge you about that. The plant itself doesn't mind hot and dry, but the blooms burn and get weird in the heat. I should take photos nekst summer to illustrate that. In your climate, some shade might be in order, but he's a rose, so he'll need sun, too. All my roses get the same regimen: lots of water, a wonderful compost I buy (Nu Life Organic compost, if you can find it; it's a regional product), applied in late fall and into winter when the weather permits. I'm still applying it. In late February, every rose gets a good feeding of Plant Tone or Holly Tone, whichever I have on hand, and in mid March, the roses get a feeding of Lilly Miller Organic granular fertilizer for acid loving plants. My soil is alkaline so I give this fertilizer for that reason. I'm sure your soil is alkaline, too. I've repeated this regimen so many times on the forum, so if you've read it before, I apologize. My roses don't get a lot after the spring feedings. As I said, all the roses are equal to me and get the same diet. I hope you're successful with His Highness. My rose is a continuous bloomer, by the way, so he blooms a lot when it would be best for him to rest (heat). Diane
