Got this with a goggle search on young cuban tree frogs ... I really don't know anything about them or even seen them.

I don't know ... never seen one myself, but it looks alot like this one to me.

Can you tell if the bones are blue? ... especially visible in the hind legs.

Thanks Missa, not sure how I missed that one....but it's so close, that I think it's rght. Bummer....looks like I will have to try trapping them....I can not kill them, but will have to take them out of the patio and hope they don't find their way back in...think I will try the pvc pipe trap for the adult one....might just have to catch the babies though...

They aren't native to the US and are detrimental to US wildlife as you already know.

Can't you get someone to euthanize them? Does Florida Fish & Wildlife have a control program for them?

It sure looks like a CTF to me. They can vary quite a bit.

One way to tell for sure (if you can catch it) is to use your finger to try to gently move the skin around on the top of its head. If the skin moves around it is NOT a CTF. See more info at University of Florida Wildlife Extension.

You're lucky to have green anoles. I've never seen one in the 7 years I've lived at this house. We've only got the non-native brown Cuban anoles.

Due to the destructive effects Cuban treefrogs have on native species of amphibians and reptiles, many biologists recommend that Cuban treefrogs be euthanized/killed. That's harsh, but true. We recommend a humane method of euthanasia for amphibians. Just make SURE the frog you have is a Cuban treefrog before euthanizing it (see the test suggested below).
A humane method for euthanizing amphibians:

To euthanize a Cuban Treefrog, hold the frog firmly in your hand and apply a 1 inch bead of benzocaine ointment along the back of the frog. Benzocaine ointment is a topical anesthetic (a numbing agent) used to treat skin pain (e.g., from sunburn) and itching as well as toothaches and sore throats. There are a variety of name brand and generic versions that are available over-the-counter in a tube or spray. If you are able to, using a gloved finger spread the ointment out on the frog's back. Alternatively, you could use a benzocaine spray. Once the ointment or spray is applied, place the frog in a plastic grocery bag or a sealable sandwich bag for 15-20 minutes so that the benzocaine has a chance to render the frog unconscious (be sure to seal the bag or tie it closed). After the bezocaine has anesthetized the frog, place the bag in a freezer overnight to ensure that the frog is dead and then throw it out in your trash. If you are unable to apply benzocaine to the frog, you can simply put it in a plastic bag, seal or tie the bag shut, then place it in the freezer overnight--dispose of the bag and the frog in the trash the next day. Do not throw a bagged frog into the trash without euthanizing it first. Remember, Cuban Treefrogs have a noxious skin secretion so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you handle the frog, even if you wear gloves or use a plastic bag.

Freezing is a humane way to kill amphibians because their bodies go into a state of torpor (metabolism slows way down) -- just as they do in cold weather outside. If the cold weather is short in duration, the frogs will come out of their torpor state. However, after an extended time in freezing temperatures, the frogs die.

A good test to determine if a frog is a Cuban treefrog is to grasp the frog firmly, but gently, and try to move the skin around on the top of the frog's head with your fingertip. The skin on the head of a Cuban treefrog is fused to the top of the skull and won't move.

Be sure to wash your hands after handling any frog or toad. They all secrete a slimy film to protect their skin, but the secretions of some species, like the Cuban treefrog, can irritate the skin and eyes of some people.

babalu_aye, I know, I love the green anoles. Anyway, I have removed the adult CTF I had, and 3 of the babies. But, I'm not so sure the babies are CTF's anymore. I have several greenhouse frogs on the patio, and the way these babies just 'appeared' one day, with no standing water anywhere on the patio,(pond was down at the time) and the nearest water/pond hundreds of yards away, I am thinking they might be them. The greenhouse frogs have the stripes, and bumpy backs. So, I will wait for them to grow a bit, and see what I think.

I have read EVERYTHING on the internet about the CTF's, as I have had them around here for a LONG time, but I have never seen baby frogs like I have this year. Greenhouse frogs do not lay eggs in water. They deposit them in debris, and they emerge fully developed, which is why I think these may be greenhouse frogs. Supposedly, they only get the size of a dime, so that should tell me. If they get bigger than a dime...they go on the 'relo' program. ;-0) I also think it's highly unlikely that these 20+ babies would have made it hundreds of yards from the nearest water supply/pond, to my patio. I would think they would have just stayed near that pond.

We'll see in a month or two. For now, the green anoles are safe.

Lynne22, how big is that frog in the picture? The cuban tree frogs I find in my yard are usually 2 - 4 inches long.

I have greenhouse frogs too, which are tiny in comparison to the CTFs. The greenhouse frogs are dime-sized, like you said. I often find them inside an open bag of potting soil that's been in the garage for awhile. I also find them in some Mexican beach pebbles I have surrounding a pondless water feature. They seem to be a bronze color. The ones I've seen don't look like picture you posted.

Hi John, it's tiny. Like half the size of a dime, and some are even smaller. There are different variations of the greenhouse frog too, one with a stripe. The colors in my pic are much brighter than it actually is. I had the exposure set really high. Here's a couple of pics I snagged of a greenhouse frog, and mine, along side of the CTF above....I think the stripe is important too. I think I just have to wait this out a bit....maybe they lose the stripes, I dunno..and for the moment, they don't make any sound at all...But, I'll just have to wait until they get a bit bigger to know for sure....
