Nice looking pond! I see that your plants are growing nicely. The trees here are just starting to bud out and my pond is not running yet as ice still in the settling chamber. As for your edging you could search pond edging on a post somewhere someone talked about digging a trench at about a 45degree angle down from where your rocks and about 6 inches deep and putting the extra liner in the trench then cover with soil. I don't know what direction your fence side of the pond is but if it's shadier I'd plant lots of ferns, hosta or low evergreens on that side of the pond with maybe some trailers to go over the edge of the rocks. I like sedums and creeping jenny but cj might be too invasive in your zone.

Normally I'd have plants all around the pond, including hosta, creeping jenny, creeping speedwell, etc. But I had to move as much as I could out of the way so I could rebuild my pond, so thats why it looks so bare. Before I start putting everything back, I need to figure out what is the best way to handle the liner edge so that it looks more natural. On my old pond, you could see the edge upon closer inspection. This time I want it to look more natural. I'll have to take out some of the rocks that I placed so that its not such a 'necklace' look. But if I were to just put gravel or 2-3" stones, then I'm worried that the stones could be easily knocked into the pond. The pond edge is not gradual, there is an immediate 1-2 foot drop. I had to keep a steep drop to deter raccoons from stepping into the pond.

You want to slope the soil such that it is slightly higher at the edge of the pond and then gradually drops to the regular grade level. Then your rocks at the edge cover up the liner at the edge while soil covers up the rest of the liner.

So I think I got it backwards then.
Everything slopes down to the pond (partly because of lack of space, sloping of the land, etc). Even the coping rocks slope towards the pond, so that the front edge of the rock facing the pond is slightly in the water (to give that 'in the water' look), but the back of the rock is raised so that its out of the water and to help keep the water running into the pond, instead of out of the pond.
Only by the patio do I have the water level higher (due to a 1" miscalculation when setting the skimmer).
If I slope it the way you said, won't the liner show by the water edge. My rocks aren't that big to make them overhang. I'm afraid that someone (or animal) could tip them into the pond, so instead I've set them back but have that bit of liner looking like its underwater.

This is probably a very simple thing, but for some reason, I'm not getting it... Do you have a photo of your liner edge placement? All my books and magazines doen't really show it. Haven't found any really good photos on the internet either. I think I've been out there digging in the rain too long!

I have a pond in the home I moved to last fall but don`t know what to do with it this year

All the fish died overwinter and presently I have not put the pump running or done anything except clean out the leaves and dead fish

I am on my own and I guess just scared, now does that seem dumb, of what to do.

Have to get doing something soon
