How long until my fish stop hiding?
Comments (8)Hi Aggierose Your question is one that I've asked myself as a new pond owner, as well as millions of others. An outdoor fish pond is not like an aquarium in which you can stroll up to the glass and see your fish. As experienced fish owners had once given me advice and millions before them, have patience. Your fish can feel the vibrations of your footsteps through the water. This in itself with a new enviroment will freak fish out. It will take a long time before your fish become accustomed to your shadow and your vibrations. I've had my pond for a year and a half, with daily work, I finally got them to hand feed. My advice is to sit on the side of the pond, on a rock or chair when you have allot of time. Grad a beer or glass of wine, possible a good book and relax. When you do start seeing your fish, remember any sudden movement such as a flick of the arm to throw food will scare them. It's almost as a hunter waiting for their prey. I used to thumb flip a pellet or two so its available to them. I hope this helps...Craig...See MoreAnybody in NYC to help with my waterfall? ($)

Comments (50)I have 2 fountains, a bird bath and a larger statuary style, and a small pond. I have had green algae problems with all of them. I have tried everything from bleach, peroxide, vinegar, and several types of algae removers like the Algaefix and other brands. My husband is a golfer and asked the maintenance guy at one of the courses what they use for the course ponds. Now their ponds are very large, anywhere from a ½ acre or more, and these products don’t come in small sizes, but I decided to split it with my neighbor and give it a try, and the important thing was it is safe for fish, birds and won’t damage your equipment. I also had to reduce the dosage of product to accommodate smaller fountains. For example, for a gallon of the enzymes, I use only an 1/8 of a cup per fountain or pond. So, this is going to last probably all year, even when splitting it with my neighbor. So this is the recipe, and I wish I had taken a before and after picture, because it actually worked so well. 1/8 cup of F-50 Bio-Pure 1/8 cup of F-55 Bio-zyme 1/8 cup of F-10 Foamkill It is necessary to use the Foamkill, because when you treat the water with the bacteria and enzymes, the reaction creates the foam. That is when you know its working. But when you pour in the foamkill, it gets rid of the foam immediately. I found a fairly good price here. https://discount-pumps.biz/algae-control-lakes.php I will be doing another treatment on our fountains this weekend. I posted a before picture and you can see a lot of thick green stuck to the fountain and also floating around in the water. I will post an after picture next week just so you can see. It’s kind of fun. pond algae control...See MoreAre my fish trying to spawn? with pic. (I hope)
Comments (8)I used pond foam (its like Great Stuff but for ponds) to seal my rocks so my water would flow. I have one large flat one on the bottom level. For some oxygen for while you work on the falls I jst used an aqarium pump with an airstone on it. I cut a plastic coffee can to put the pump in to protect it from the weather. We rebuilt our waterfall 5 times!! so have some patience.Your water will flow better after you seal the cracks. Good Luck!...See MoreLiz Margoshes
