Please help ID small flowering tree
Comments (4)Hi njtea, You had me going there for a minute with the photo of the cornelian cherry (cornus mas). But after looking at more photos of it (the fruit gave it away) I remembered that we had a couple of bushes in front of our old townhouse. It's definitely a spicebush. I just bought several bareroot plants because I liked the look of it so much. I haven't seen very many at all around the neighhood or neighboring towns but the Princeton U. campus has several nice specimens in full bloom. Apparently they come in several shades of yellow. Mostly the ones I've seen are a rich gold but there's one bush in Princeton that's a lighter yellow-green which is more to my liking but they are all quite striking and beautiful especially when there's not much else blooming this early. I also noticed that the magnolias on campus were just about ready to bloom and some of the stellas had actually opened a blossom or two. Our witchhazels are past bloom, I too love the scent but the winterhazel is starting to bloom now with it's long drupe of flowers. Thanks for suggesting the cornus mas...See MoreNeed help id'ing this small white flower
Comments (6)I think E. corollata is probably it, there is a lot of this plant growing in this area and I have photographed it often but in apparent later stages of growth; I think the unusual appearance of the flower and the overall shape of the plant is what threw me off but looking at some of my other E. corollata photos at the base of the plant, the leaf shape and habit seem to match this. I may try to confirm this later this spring and see if I can find some more plants in the same stage of growth. Thanks all....See MorePlease ID this small flowering tree
Comments (3)Just for phenological comparison ... Photo (taken today) of my Tokyo Tower Chinese Fringetree. No leaves yet, but I'm amazed that it is still alive (buds are beginning to expand) after seeing -29F in February. Even more remarkable considering it was just planted last spring....See MoreNeed help IDing low growing plant in rocks with small white flowers
Comments (0)This plant/weed spontaneously erupts in my rocks. It is a low growing ground cover that just now is putting out tiny white flowers, not closely spaced. Any ideas of what it is? I've always pulled it but thinking about leaving it as a rock ground cover if I can find out what it is and it's characteristics....See Morecarol23_gw
