I took this picture 2 weeks ago in Atlanta and kept forgetting to post it here. It smelled so nice. What is this tree? Thanks

Closer view needed, otherwise probably Chinese fringe tree.

"Seriously invasive, at least here in New England" If you're thinking of either of the two European buckthorn species invasive in the USA, it isn't one of those. Check out Carolina Buckthorn Frangula caroliniana, that's a better fit, though I'm far from certain it is a buckthorn at all, they usually have more clustered berries. Location of the plant would help. Resin

Very unlikely a T. Divaricata, the flowers look very different. How big the leaves? Cloud be a T. Pachysiphon or Crassa. Or a Gardenia of some sort...

Just for phenological comparison ...

Photo (taken today) of my Tokyo Tower Chinese Fringetree. No leaves yet, but I'm amazed that it is still alive (buds are beginning to expand) after seeing -29F in February. Even more remarkable considering it was just planted last spring.
