hello, everyone, just want to thank you all for all the info. I love the FAQ and the links that you so thoughtfully attached on occasion. Also, this thread has given me a few chuckles. this is one of my favourite forums. I am new to orchids (about 4 yrs) and I do try not to ask any questions that has been asked before. and I don't mind if you tell me where else to get the info: i actully find that useful. it is all to do with my learning. keep up the good work.

Hyper tufa is tufa after several cups of coffee with sugar.

judy - hypertufa is this stuff you can make from peat, sand and cement...it's lighter than complete cement and has this rocky texture. It can be shaped to molds too, kind of like rocky play dough. People like using it to make rock-like pots. It's quite popular in growing alpine species.

Hi Sue! There is a requirement that you forgot - a comment on catfish or sugared tufa is mandatory ;P

When you're done skinning those cats, do not let the skins go to waste. It makes an excellent fertilizer for orchids. Chop it up and mix with ground hypertufa. Bake at 350F for 2 hours, turning the pan and misting every 15 mins. Allow to cool and sprinkle with cinnamon for added antifungal properties. Dissolve in beer before applying to the plants, as the beer helps aerate the soil and increase the plants' ability to take up water.

Too bad cats won't drink beer. It would add an interesting component to their predilection for hallucinating.

You could fry them in beer batter....

I've spent a lot of time lurking there and soaking up info.
Although I haven't actually made anything, I've taken a lot of notes and bought things for future greenhouse projects.

There are more forums than I have time to read.
I check in on several of these, when I can.
Permaculture Forum
Northwestern Gardening Forum
Farm Life Forum
Greenhouses & Garden Structures
And, there are so many more.

Some are too religeousy for my tastes.
Some are down right bitter and fight all the time.

Someone, and it wasn't me, moved one in when I wasn't looking. She stays only cause she's smart enough to know who to suck up to, isn't neurotic or psychotic, is an indoor/outdoor cat so she doesn't have a litter box and she figured out real quick to stay off the tables and kitchen counter. She's entertaining in that she harasses the snot out of the dog and hallucinates. The minute she gets fat and lazy or develops typical cat mental issues, she gets skinned.

Since we can't have a BS thread that doesn't include tree rats. The cat also catches and releases squirrels just so she can catch them again as they try to get away. It's rather entertaining.

Spike wouldn't allow the threads to go over 100 or 102. Sometimes the over 100 happened because they were coming in as the thread was being locked out. If you tried to post, you'd get this little sign saying "bug off, this thread has reached the 100 point and is no longer available for additional posts..." or some such rot.

I have no idea how high iVillage will let them go...I bet on to infinity, but most folks get bored with it before then. As far as I can tell, the iVillage "people" aren't too responsive...at least not to the emails I've sent. Maybe I should cough up some dough...or is it hairballs?

Laura, you seem like a cat person, I bet she'll grow on ya. I despise the little chipmunks in our flowerbeds, but I have to rescue them when I see outside kitty torturing them to death.

That first orchid would never have survived and bloomed and bloomed without them, and you, and this forum. Glad to see you, again.

In case you didn't get that, I Love this forum! Even the warts--sometimes, especially the warts. Spiced Ham, it would be poorer without you--as would our orchids. Scott, I had a 150 gal and turned it into a SW reef. Had a few smaller tanks with just invertebrates.

Forget skinning cats! My kitty would catch chipmunks and bring them in, I would scream and he'd drop it. Poor thing would run all over the house and drop-dead from me chasing it.

Thanks for your kind words all..I've been busy settling in here, raising a teenager, and dirt gardening where there has never been a garden before in soil which is better suited for making clay pots than garden beds....therefore, I haven't posted as much as I had in the past...and yes, I was getting bored with answering "What is S/H?" "Why are my phals leaves all limp and leathery"...and I let other folks do it. :) No one cares about s/h anymore I guess...and as long as there are new growers, there will be phals with limp leaves. :)

Orrin - Also, 83% of the cat eggs reported to date have at least one tiny claw protruding just before hatching - similar to a chick's beak - and thus can hold their own on a tree (and a mount).
