Any interest in a GW get together in the spring?

I know this is pretty early but I'm wondering if there is any interest in a GW get together in Atlanta in the spring. We can talk about roses/gardening, visit some local gardens, get to know some GW folks and maybe even trade some plants, if you want.

My house and yard are small. My gardens are far from what I want them to be but if you'd like to come some weekend, let me know. I'm thinking the end of April or the beginning of May.

I've never been to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens but have heard they're worth seeing. We could go there in addition or just meet there instead.

Sounds like a great idea Most of the roses at the botanical garden have been taken out but there is a beautiful display at the Fernwood Science Museum.

Very nice idea. BTW. Fernwood taking out roses is a temp thing. There are good things afoot over there.

I'm thrilled that this is generating some excitement. My favorite things in the whole world are meeting new people and throwing parties. With this gathering, I get to indulge in both. Let's aim for the beginning of October. The exact date will depend on when I can schedule the movers -- I'd like to have them do their thing in mid-September. Connie P.S. That was too much fun! Between that and all the other errands I had to run yesterday, I was one pooped little lady! Ladies, I have to say thank you for all those wicked bueno cool plants. I feel like I hit the jackpot! I know what I am doing today.....I'm glad I came to get a feel for plant swaping, I can't wait for the fall one. I plan to be starting some things so I can be ready. And thank you for calling me cool Mommyfox! I try to be cool. It works sometimes:-) And I have to say that Julie, you yourself were a really cool cat. The Invisible One is finally reporting in. After last SundayÂs gathering, The Bug got me down, eliminating my ability to say anything the least bit witty, not that I could have matched the others at that, anyway. DH and I enjoyed everyoneÂs company immensely. It was wonderful to dine among GW celebrities Igloochic (the delightful, devoted mother of adorable Jesse -- I hope he is doing much better), Buehl (who I later realized is the Kitchen Forum FAQ compiler/poster), and cooperbailey (with whom I had several things in common). It would be fun to meet more GW folks, whenever and wherever. We are in Towson, MD, so I expect weÂll be headed south when it happens. Some have pronounced our kitchen "finished." Now, we all know that "done" is a relative term. I hastily took some pictures of our kitchen before last weekÂs dinner meeting, and the only thing really missing is a window treatment. However, I need to straighten up the counters, find the best angles, and gather all the spec details before preserving our kitchen for posterity in the Finished Kitchens Blog. That new project is definitely on my Someday List Â another relative term. :-) Alice

The top of the forum page under the title says, "This is the spot to share experiences with remodeling, decorating and maintaining kitchens..." Not everyone shares the same kitchen-related concerns, interests, or areas of expertise, so it's great all can be covered by this large community. Any truly 'unnecessary posts' will die a natural death, since if people aren't interested, there will be no follow-up posts and it will fall away, not using much volume. We are free to read or not read, post or not post. I agree that 'pay to play' would kill the forum. No one new would join in, because you can't know the value of this place until you participate...and those of us who hang around for fun and to help, or with just an occasional need or question, probably just wouldn't.

I started having a GW get together three years ago, and we always have the BEST time. The first year, I had one rose border in the front yard and a TON of roses in pots waiting to be planted. Each year, I have more garden (and more pots, sigh). It doesn't matter what your garden looks like or what you grow ... garden friends are interested in whatever you have. Plan a pot luck social at your house, invite your garden friends (both real and cyber), and enjoy yourself.

Well, it will be years before my house and garden are in any shape for company...However if anyone in LA County or within 2 hours of it hosted one, I'd be there in a second. Or I would even travel to the Fort Worth area of Texas, as I have family there I could stay with and visit. Apparently there are some great botanical gardens in Texas as well.

Actually the ABG now has an old garden rose display which is no spray. I was there last year, although in the middle of summer, and there wasn't much blooming. I've always enjoyed Fernwood, and I'm excited to hear Paul say they are doing something new. I'd be up for a meet.
