Solstice

The astronomical solstice will occur locally nine minutes after midnight tonight, central standard time, so tonight will be the longest night of the year for the northern hemisphere (Everything is relative, really).

How do I know it's the solstice? Why, I have the sun room marked as an observatory. It's just a magic marker marked at the proper distance to indicate the maximum depth into the room when the sun is at it's lowest in the sky, noonwise, on the solstice. Today the sun reached the mark.

Tomorrow the days will begin to be longer. Imperceptible at first, but it really is down hill to spring.

Where's my seed catalogues?

Time to run down to the dollar store and pick up box of store made fire logs. They are handy when you just can't find the right Yule log. Oh, and pick up the fixin's for eggnogg. No store bought eggnogg for tonight.

It's 59 F and the sun is shining. Hmmm, still have a couple of hours of light left, might take the kayak out for a bit.
